I just bought pump deisel from the BP station. I thought they were adding the DEF to fuel now for the newer engines. The Kubota is the only deisel that I've ever owned. Anyways, I'll stop posting on this thread now. I just wanted to save some other poor soul a whole lot of trouble with a Kubota that has the same symptoms.

What in heck is a "rubber oil plug?"
this annoying piece of nonsense. Took me days to find it on the diagram. Ordered the wrong thing at least once.

It is just force fit -- those are rubber/plastic ribs on the thing and they get old and then it pops out or falls out as the OP mentioned. Newer models have a proper, threaded oil cap but not these older models.

This is from an L4600 Hydrostat.

1-1/8" expandable "freeze plug" worked nicely. Supposed to be good up to 200 degrees.
