Ditto here, only a few years earlier. Was looking at the L2800, and dealer advised to make the jump to L3400 for not much more $$ for that very same reason...
I have the L3800. My 3 point hitch is like Bluegill's. I have to purposely make an attempt to notice it jerks a little and it only seems to do that before it warms up and when I'm trying to move it very very slowly. I use my box blade a lot and honestly, this causes me no problems at all. If I had not read about it, I would never have known. I think some do have more serious problems with it being jerky, but mine is really not bothersome at all. This tractor has exceeded my expectations from day one. I'm sure some other colors would have also done the same, but you asked about the L3800 and I completely love mine. I have my rear wheels filled and have a toothbar on my loader and literally dug a pond with this set up. I haven't put anything in the bucket yet that it wouldn't lift with my box blade on for extra ballast.
I looked at a slightly used L3400DT, 15K at the JD dealer, liked it but thought it might be too small. Went to the Kubota dealer to look at a new L4400DT (my BnL has one and loves it), but they didn't have one, said the new L4600 was coming. They did have a 14 hour used L3800DT (didn't want HST), loaded tires, FEL, looked new. Still thought it might be too small, but looked it over good, drove it, liked it! Figured for 15K cash I'd give it a try. 1.5 years later still love it! Hitch not jerky, FEL lifts more than it should, plenty of power, smooth, quiet, no problems, live PTO w/two stage clutch, size perfect for logging and mowing in tight places, it does everything I need! Now, I will get a larger rig in the next few years to replace our old L3750, But the L3800DT is not going anywhere!
