KUbota L3901 400 service

For winter and all year use just run 5W-40 full diesel approved synthetic, change every year or +100 hours or so with filter, then don't worry about it. 400-1000 hrs on the rest of the fluids, depending on use and conditions.

I think a couple of years is the maximum regardless of hours (for me). I put about 80 hours per year on my tractors, so I do a service around every 75-100 hours. If you are putting on 400 hours per year, I think that oil change interval is fine. If you put on 80 hours per year like me, I would not run 5 years with the same oil.

I'm just going by the kubota service schedule for my tractor. So far I'm on track to average 200 hours a year.

I personally don't think you will have a problem going two years without changing oil. Frequent use is better than non-use for a long period. That said, I would change it annually because I'm a nutcase about maintenance. I see it as cheap insurance. For 30 minutes and 30 bucks, it is worth it for me. I probably over-service my machines, but it gives me peace of mind.

Not questioning what your manual say (I am very surprised!!) but here is kubota's website and I see they have backed off from every 100 hours...

I would only try that with full synthetic oil... Actually, that would have meant that I would have only changed the oil 2 in the 12 years I've had mine... No thanks, I'll change it every 100 hours. (maybe the clocks have changed from RPM based to straight time?)

Here is my manual (I change the filter every oil change):

How about that line in the maintenance schedule to "Replace cooling system Anti-freeze" every year? That seems like overkill.

My L2550DT gets an oil change every 100 hours. I use Rotella T 15-40 and new filter each time. Some say it is an overkill every 100 hours. I just changed mine a couple days ago at 5503 hours. Yes it is good peace of mind and I have never had an engine issue, ever. Clutches, front differential and that is about it. Regular maintenance is the key to longevity. Shoved a 3/8" stick through the radiator about 20 years ago and bent the tubes back but the little think has yet to spring a leak.

I write on the oil filter the hours and date when the oil change is due. The body looks like it has been through a war but it is mechanically a sound unit. It ain't pretty but it keep up with 75 acres.

Another thing I do is keep the fuel tank full so condensation does not form in the tank.

So I called the kubota dealer that I originally bought my L3901 from and spoke to the guy in service to get a price quote for the 400 hour service. To my surprise the guy didn't know how much it would cost, he also didn't know what parts and fluids were required and the costs for everything if I were to do the service myself. He said he'd have to call me back later that day. So anyway I decided to give Union farm equipment a call which is my other local kubota dealer where I've bought many of my implements and spoke to their service guy. I was told worst case scenario if I wanted them to come do the complete 400 hour service at my house that I'd be looking at somewhere in the $500 range. The service guy then said that Kubota has eased up on their maintenance schedule since I bought my tractor and that at 400 hours just a basic service is needed now which just involves engine oil and filter change, air filter and fuel filter change. So for all that to be done by the dealer at my house would cost me $230 and I was quoted around $130 if I bought all the stuff and do it myself. Anyone have any new owners manuals 2015 or newer that say this for the 400 hour service? I'm leaning to just getting the entire service done like my manual says even though the kubota service guy says it's not needed. Thoughts? Oh and I never did hear back from the original kubota dealer, gotta say I'm a little disappointed with that.

Mine is a L 3301 and it is a 2015. Mine say 400 hrs and that is what I will go by. I check each thing off and keep all purchase records to back them up in case needed later on

I use Rotella T6 on all my diesels regardless of the manufacturer's listing. It works very well and each engine has run quieter when I switched to it, a small but nice feature.
