Kubota B8200, then a Kubota L3130 HST, now a Kubota L3400 HST
Good thread. I had a Grand L 3130, and now a smaller, more suitable L3400, so I am aware of the differences, sort of. I do miss the features that made life richer on the Grand L, and there's no doubt it was a much heavier, more solid machine, but the smaller L3400 will do what I need, and not tear up the lawn as much. I ran across this video when I watched kOua's link. I like the seeing the rear thing explained. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEpQFZ5BG8c
Here is another video animation. While this video shows a pump with a fixed swash plate, not a variable swash plate like our tractors have it does show the relationship of the pistons, the slipper retainer and the valve plate and exactly how suction and pressure is achieved, very well. Of course there are always more components to make up a fully working Hydro-static transmission, like a charge pump, and dampeners, neutral valves, relief valves etc. As an example my swash plate on the Kioti is not directly controlled by the pedals but itself is hydraulically assisted for easier peddle response. But if you get the basics down on how the pump works, you will be ahead of most.
