Kubota L3940

Going through this exercise myself. Based on Kubota MSRP prices posted on TBN earlier this year, the difference between a cabbed 3940 and 4240 w/R4's is only $1740.00 and difference between a 724 and 854 loaders c/w QA, 72" HD bucket and cutting edge is $184.00. All other options for the tractor are the same price, so no difference there. Therefore, if you can afford an additional $1924.00, you get a higher HP tractor with a larger capable loader.

Your biggest bang for the buck in any lineup is the tractor with the least HP in that frame size.

So the jump in value from the economy L series to the L3240 (with the LA723 loader) is big, but the jump in value from the L3240 to the L3540 or a L3950 isn't as big for the vast majority of applications. You still have basically the same loader and lift capacities and hydraulic capacity etc.

Similarly the jump from L3940 to L4240 is lots of added value as you get the lift in capacities of the L4x40 series AND a heftier loader.

All of that said, if I were getting a cab, I would consider not getting the least hp available in any series. So in the L3x40 series, I would be tempted to look at the L3540 with a cab as a min and in the L4x40 series I'd be tempted to look one past the L4240. This is probably my own paranoia but I figure the few more ponies are worth it for things like the a/c etc.

Does not mean that I absolutely wouldn't get the lowest hp in a given series with a cab.... just means that I would spend more time making sure it had the power I needed - with the a/c on, going uphill etc.

I'd recommend spending some time with the L4240 with the cab. For the price difference, it will be worth it IMHO.

As another poster recommends, be sure and compare the L4240 to the 3940 before finalizing your decision.

:) I want to thank all of you for your help and information.I think I have made a decision,I would love to have a higher HP tractor but it"s not in the budget so I think I have settled on the GL 3940, it should do most of what I want . I guess I will find out soon.::D Thanks again. Terry

Can an L3940 pick up a round bale with the front end loader?

I do it all the time with mine. Caveat: It's best to move round bales with it when you have your heaviest implement on the back. If you do it without any implement at all, it starts feeling very unstable when you pick up a decent-sized round bale.

Good luck on your purchase. I just got my L3940 GST it is more then I expected :D. Funds didn't allow me to get the HST sure would have been nice, But I am getting used to the GST. The Loader (woods 108) is very powerful so far anything I have asked it to lift or move it has done it with no problem. Post pics when you get it.

I just bought a 3940 and it was $4000 cheaper than the 4940. I think they go up in about $2000 increments. The 3240 was $2300 cheaper than the 3940.

Re: the remotes now or later, if you are going to need remotes in the future, get them now and finance them for 0% for 54 mo. They won't add much to your monthly payment. I didn't, thinking I will add them at the 50 hr maintenance, but wish I had gone ahead and got it done.

A 3940 cab will be awesome.
