This is my first tractor, I was at the dealer today and got a price on a new L4400 HTS with the LA703 loader and BH90A backhoe wiht the quick connect bucket and turf tires and canapy for $26500. Is this a good price? I have alot of yard work (retaining walls and flower gardens to build) and a side hill to get under control. I don't want to dig up the grass driving around, thats why I think I want the turf tires, is this a good choice?

Thanks

I don't know about the price but I have an L4300 and I'll say that is a great choice of a tractor and backhoe. You can do most anything you can think of with that combination.

That well help, but digging conditions when it comes to traction..R's may give you little more bite.

Yes, I would want the industrial R4 if it were me. I have ag tires on my L4300 and in damp weather they can leave a mark in damp grass. On another tractor I have R4's and zero marks.
I too, thought about tufrs and originally disliked R4's, but learned the R4 is a great general use yard tire. I think turfs would be too slippery.

I have R4's on my 3940 and mow the yard with it and they are not to hard on the grass. I think they are a pretty good all around tire.

I have the L4400HST with R4 tires on it. I've had it on grass and it doesn't leave any real tracks at all. They're a good all around tire. By the way, the price quote seems fair. Mike.

You have a very nice setup. I posted the following on the Kubota forum.

"As has been mentioned on these sites/posts many times before; for multiple applications any single tire choice is going to be a compromise. I fave equipment with turf, Ag, bar, industrial and orchard. I even have one with mixed front and back."

"After trying them all, I have settled on industrial for my BX2660 with 60" MMM and FEL, John Deere 2305 with 62" MMM and L5030 HSTC with FEL, Ag tires on my other larger tractors."

"For my conditions, industrial tires for mowing and FEL use on hilly property is the best compromise with the smaller tractors work best; I have had traction issues with turf under these conditions, but I often mow when the grass is wet."

"This works best for me, but your conditions may dictate otherwise. Some people get touchy on this subject when others disagree with their choice, but variables such as soil type, terrain, operator experience, tractor type etc. all factor in and what is "best" for one and not another."

TripleR good reasonable post. My situation is hilly and more hilly, I do not even think my living room is level. I do not cut my grass with my tractors,I have a zero clearance for that. But I do want the added traction for plowing and pulling logs so I will stay with Ag tires. Yep I get ruts once in a while, but I usually go where I want, even in the snow. I have to admit if I had flat ground I would have R-4's,if for no other reason then they look pretty. I made my mind up because of my situation, and do not disagree with others that have chosen R-4s or turf. Actually at times I am jealous of all you folks that have flat land. Other times I sit at the top of a hill and look at all that beauty, knowing my ugly Ags got me there.

This sound like my situation. Hills everywhere.

Boy I know what you mean about hills. We have mostly flat or "rolling hills", but we have some sections on one of our farms, the one on which I live, that are STEEP and only safely accessible with my Yamaha Rhino. I have cleared some of this with my MF 375 72hp low profile with Ag's on the front and wide profile orchard tires on the rear.

Our land is highly erodible and I do as little to disturb the ground as possible and keep all tractors parked if it is wet. We have taken about 140 acres out of production and reforested some while establishing native grasses and wildlife cover.

As to mowing, I took my wife to look at a dedicated mower, but she will not give up "her" BX2660; end of that discussion.
