KUBOTA L48 TLB

Just to summarize, because I'm thinking of getting a tractor from Messecks for my son and I want an L48 for my self.
I HAVE A '02 L48 THAT KEEPS LOSING AN ENGINE OIL PLUG THAT LEAVES ME WITHOUT OIL PRESSURE. THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT THIS PLUG ( I THINK HE CALLED IT A "FLINCH PLUG" ) IS USED TO SEAL THE PREDRILLED PORT HOLES THAT SUPPLY THE OIL TO THE FILTER, PRESSURE GAUGE,etc..

and
I live 15 miles from messicks. They put the first oil plug in. the shop manager told me they found the old plug in the oil pan. After I put the 100 hrs on the tractor, and lost the oil pressure again, I called the shop and they said It's unlikely the plug fellout again. They thought It was electrical and sent up a mechanic to check it out.<snip>.
So you have an '02 L48TLB (unknown origin) that Messick's replaced the oil plug on and now thinks it's an electrical problem. Was it a $4K operation for the first replacement?

What is the warranty on a 2002 Kubota? I know Hyundai has some sort of 10 year warranty for original buyers.

Any solution yet?

For discussion purposes, this popped into my head and was kind of covered by others.
In summery : you lost oil pressure and they fixed the plug. You lost pressure again and they found you had 14 psi. You pulled pan and found metal flakes.

This tells me that you damaged the bearings the first time you lost pressure and after a while they got so bad that you lost pressure again.
The plug is probably not out again, your just seeing the long term results of previous damage.

As others have said, maybe you can replace the bearings ( if the crank is not damaged) and see if that helps.

Note: if the bearings are that far gone there is going to be a lot of " junk " through out the engine, in the oil galleys etc. This is hard to clean out without completely dissembling the engine.
I would say clean out the best you can and change the filter a few times, but you may be doing this again.

I've had this happen before. When the oil light came on, I shut it down. By the grace of God, my wife found a small "metal plug" on the ground. Through all my efforts ie: no info at all, I finally whent to my dearler and requested to speak with thier engine tech. He was very helpful and explained that the plug was a block plug and that most likley it was my problem. He just said "put it back in tightly" . That was it and I put it back in myself. It was difficult to get at but I did it. No tear down of any sort.... located on the right front of block....
suggest that you get some help from a good experienced mechanically minded source...not a parts re-placer, as most service centers are.
Hope this helps someone...at this late reply. But I just saw it... sorry if not in time for someone..

Jerry
