My brand new L4802 is impossible to shift 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th without clashing gears and downshifting is even worse. The dealer's service manager tells me that these tractors have transmissions that are rough shifting. Even if I believe that, this tractor is almost impossible to shift down unless the tractor is brought to a complete stop which renders the machine practically useless. I've adjusted the clutch to provide more release and still have the problem. The dealer is sending a mechanic out but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this issue and how it was resolved. Thank you in advance.

Have you read your tractors operators manual about shifting gears? For example, it could be something simmilar:
Main Gear Shift Lever & Range Gear Shift Lever
The main gear shift and the range gear shift can only be
shifted when tractor is completely stopped and clutch is
depressed.
To change speeds, press the clutch pedal completely
down and stop the tractor before attempting to
proceed with speed change.

This is my 4th tractor and the first time I've experienced this problem. Of course you must come to a stop before shifting from hi to lo range or visa versa. I'm referring to normal up shifting and down shifting which, by their very nature, are done with the tractor in motion. That's why manufacturers produce synchronized transmissions.

This Kubota spec sheet says the L4802 has a constant mesh (meaning non-synchronized) main transmission with synchronized shuttle. I hope the link works.

Thanks. Hidden away in the middle of the owner's manual it informs the reader that the tractor must be brought to a complete stop before changing gears. Of course, the advertising literature says the transmission is smooth shifting. Customers do not have access to the owner's manual until after they purchase the tractor and who would even think a new tractor can't be shifted while in motion. After all, if you need to operate in 3rd or 4th gear the owner's manual is telling you to start in that gear from a dead stop. How long will a clutch last with that kind of abuse?

Why can't Kubota offer a synchronized transmission in the US? Makes no sense at all.

Just about all the other manufacturers do it. Heck, even Kubota does it here in Europe. Anything above the B series, has synchronized transmission.

I agree. I have two other Kubota shift tractors and both are fully synchronized. K's ads for this tractor state it is smooth shifting which is a lie but how is the customer to know that pre purchase when the salesman doesn't tell him? This 4802 is utterly useless and will be going back to Kubota one way or another.
