I've been struggling with this for a couple of weeks.

My local Kubota dealer has a 2012 non Tier IV cab L5740, while my local JD dealer has both open station and cab non Tier IV 4720s.

Being an engineer, I've thoroughly digested the specs. The prices are competitive.

I will not buy Tier IV.

Has anyone thoroughly researched this comparison lately?

Man I would love a Cab 5740! Big Bucks though.

Both are great machines. It depends on what you want on it, such as on the JD you can get an ePTO, Air Ride Seat and Self-Leveling Loader. The Kubota has the HST+ transmission and a little more lift at the 3PH.

I wouldn't linger too long..............either choice is a fine tractor

They are both very good!

If need cab, get the Bota.

If open, get the JD.

If you don't want tier IV, be very quick!!!

Man, talk about a tough choice. I looked at both last year before buying my L5740 to beat the tier IV stuff. I really like them both and as mentioned each has some features the other doesn't. I have often noted I would love a KiJoBota or some such ideal hybrid. I have limited use of my left leg, lots of walking wounded on TBN, so left foot brakes are out for me. Left foot, steering brakes such as on the John Deere and others including the new Kubota Grand L's are a plus for many though. The air ride seat is definitely a nice option and I had to drop an extra $1100 to get an aftermarket Grammar air ride (Grammer MSG 93 - 721) to put in mine while you can get an OEM in the John Deere.

I love the HST+ somewhat to my surprise and use the heck out of it especially the dual range option.

We owned a tractor with self leveling bucket, but didn't really need it, but I am sure they can be handy if you handle a lot of pallets and such.

It all comes down to a balancing act as both are really good tractors. I could be pretty darned happy with any of the major brands. There really is no down side. Yeah, OK, for some of there is as I still drive through the John Deere, MF, Case etc. lots then my brother bought a new Kioti I really like, gotta draw the line somewhere.

I think that sums it up pretty well, it's going to come down to the brake and foot pedal arrangement, and which one you prefer: Dual pedal or single treadle....left or right brakes.

The HST+ sold me. Once I started to realize just how much time it would save it won me over. At first I saw it as just another bell that I really didn't need until I really understood it. The pedal stuff didn't phase me because the floor is flat in the Kubota so either foot can easily reach the brake pedals and the HST pedal can be used either with your toe and heel or just your toe (like a two pedal set up). The idea of the ePTO seams nice but I really didn't have a need for it.

What is the HST+ all about? I hear everybody rave about it, but I have never operated one.

I like the extra head room in the JD.
