I just got a L5740 and have put about 30 hours on it. I have one complaint and want to know if I am the only one and what fixes folks have done.

Every time I get in a bind where I really need to pull hard and step on the differential lock and then step on the go pedal I get too light on the seat to keep the dead man switch locked in. The engine then shuts off. Not a good thing to do under heavy load pulling hard.

I haven't looked at it, but I suspect I can fix it with a pair of wire cutters pretty easy. Any other ideas? Any one else have this same experience.

I am not the biggest guy, but I think it is just adjusted way too light. Is there an adjustment?

Perhaps the easiest solution might be to remove the spring (one bolt) that pushes the seat up slightly when no one is in it?

I don't advocate disconnecting the safety stuff either, unless it renders it inoperable. Pulling a disc, or a boxblade full of material I need to have the dif. lock engaged. Two feet pushing down, one on the dif. lock and one on the go pedal = dead engine... frustrating.

never had this problem. Eat more donuts? Or put a toggle switch inline to temporarily disable the safety?

Or grease the dif lock - sounds stiffer than it should be

you could use the cruise control lever instead of the pedal to try and keep more weight on the seat. just push the lever a litllte to go slow all the way to go fast.......you get the idea

I've never liked the fact that you can't press the diff lock and the gas pedal with one foot. I'd love to see a lever or modified dif lock that would allow me to press it down with my heel and press the gas with my toe.

As it is, I just use the throttle lever instead of the pedal.

I would not disable the safety features, at least not on my tractor because they are very well implemented and have probably saved my bacon a couple of times when I've been tired or distracted and tried to do something stupid.

Bringing this one back to the top to see if anyone has the same issues I am having.
Maybe I am just too much of a featherweight.

I took it to the dealer and they said Kubota instructed them to put more foam in the seat to help keep the switch closed. They did that, but still when I turn around to back up and get weight on one cheek, the switch opens and it dies.

It happens when backing up and also when I stand on the dif. lock. I really don't want to cut the wires.

Has anyone else had this issue? How did you fix it? (aside from eating more or cutting the wires)

Do replacement seats have integral switches?

Disabling the switch will be my last resort. Loading manure I got stuck in the slime and couldn't get out. I would step on the dif lock, start to move, then my weight would shift and the tractor would die. I repeated the procedure until I got frustrated and then got my wife to pull me out with the RTV. I agree that the safety stuff is there for a reason and would like it to stay functional.

Kubota needs to address the issue.

Obviously the switch is opening to quickly. The seat should come up quite a bit before it opens. If the padding thing helped somewhat - if it's better than it was -then more padding or depending on the switch setup, something built up on the bottom of the seat or on top of the switch plunger to hold the contact longer. But of course the switch should still open with no one in the seat. But maybe your model's switch is inside the seat itself? Sometimes I have stood up to see something better but I get my butt back down on there before the engine dies completely.

You could always try a phone book:)

I agree it's a pain, mine has the throttle and diff lock on the same side so it isn't as bad. As far as I know there isn't much you can do aside from adjusting the switch or seat. A temporary disconnect is a dangerous solution, I usually forget things like that.

You can add a momentary switch to bypass the seat switch as a parallel circuit, this will cure it safely. It would take some studying and head scratching to figure out exactly where to wire it in. God alone knows what that would do to your warranty.

Adding the switch in series won't work since as soon as you take your finger off the switch the engine will die whether you're in the seat or not.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.
