Kubota L5740 vs. 17" of snow

   / Kubota L5740 vs. 17" of snow #11
I do 18 driveways every storm, but did 35 this time. I've been experimenting a lot on how to be more efficient. On long pushes like that, the snow gets removed faster by pushing a little extra. It seems to use the fan to full capacity by filling beyond what just the auger will do. At the end of the row, I slow down and let it chew to get it as clean as possible by the garage.

I know nothing about snow blowing, but I totally agree with your concept. If you don't have a slight pile in front of you, you are not keeping the blower completely full. At the end of the day that will add up to a LOT more productivity.

Kinda the same philosophy for me when pushing with a V Plow on our Grader. I want to go thru a long, deep drifted area as fast as the machine has the power to push it. At the end of the day I've moved a LOT more snow in a LOT less time!!!

Great Video!!!

I am amazed that your Kubota blower shoots snow that far with the RPMs at 2000. Looks like a properly matched machine.
Mine is a 75 inch 3PH model and I must run my Rs at full tilt to amount to anything more than 10-15 feet. It's not a power problem it's a speed issue. Have mine set at 2900 RPM or 590 PTO speed to get anything done. It screams beat me beat me and sucks up more fuel than need be, the radio doesn't help either. In wet snow unless the Rs are full out the blower shoot plugs solid leaving me with the trusty plow truck to finish the job.

Might have to come into some mods or another blower for next season. When we get more snow I'll shoot a video and you can all have a funny on me.

My 5740 runs around 2100 rpm to get up to 540 rpm on the 3pt blower. I did a vid on it yesterday. Lots of outside blower footage in it.

Nice video Paul. Your mod videos kept me more than occupied while I was waiting for delivery of my tractor. Do you have any close-ups of how you did the mount for the lightbar? Having it up a little higher will help visibility and won't put holes in the cab. Where'd you get the fenders? Running down the road without sure coats the windshield. Also, your blower would be better on the other end... LOL :drink: The mod I've been pondering the most is how to add heated mirrors. The get snowed over quick and turning around is hard on the neck.

Fred, most of the time I run it at 2000 rpm. It shoots plenty far, has never clogged, uses less fuel and isn't as hard as WOT. Going through this thick stuff, I had it throttled up, but bogged it down to 2k. It's burning about 1.6 GPH on average. Sure beats the 2-3 GPH in the pickup. Busting through drifts beat the heck out of the truck. With the blower, just feel out the speed its most efficent and it's nice and smooth.

My soon to be wife always bugs me about getting to go work and play with the tractor :) I'm surprised by how well they do despite their width. They have a lot of edges that bite and some siping. Can't beat R1s in deep off road powder, but the turfs rock on pavement. A 950 pound ballast box also helps a lot.

Use what works for you!

The first Pass is ok doing it the way you did but follow up passes will create massive overspill/spoil piles on each side of the blower actually causing you to lose time in clearing efficiency.

I watch a city sidewalk machine (trackless) and the operator travels so fast that he needs to do the pass twice because of how much snow spills from the blower sides. Enjoy that nice machine!

Just a couple of comments,
Dashing thru the snow would have been a better choice for background music (sorry George, tis the season).
Rain X on the glass.

Other than that awesome vid, thanks for sharing

One of my driveways today. It's been fun getting snow like this. I've always looked forward to "snow days" since I was in school. The toys just got a little bigger :D So far, the tractor has been surpassing my expectations.

Great video of your snow removal.

The one thing that can improve it greatly is one of clarences impeller kits.

he has them for both walk behind snow blowers and three point hitch units.
