Kubota M59 Boom Cylinder

   / Kubota M59 Boom Cylinder #21
The Backhoe boom cylinder would not fully retract. The service manager indicated that the nut at the end of the rod had backed off and caused the rod to bend. The seals on the cylinder were still good no leaks so the bend must have just happened when the nut hit. Replacement parts not available from Kubota.

Am I correct in assuming that a good hydraulic repair shop should be able to make a new rod to replace the bent one?

If you look at the parts diagram, there is an end projection just past the 30mm threads that looks like a hydraulic bump stop. I wonder if that is what bent rather than the entire rod? I believe you want a hydraulic shop that has the capability to "make custom cylinders". Hopefully that means they will have a big lathe and a machinist who is experienced at repairing & making rods.

Locally we have one hydraulic shop that replaces seals, makes hoses and does smaller work. They have a nice new shop on the edge of town. Fairly expensive shop, but very modern. They run it like it was an auto parts store,

There is also a funky old shop out in the industrial area not far from JD and CAT that has large old manual lathes and mills along with some old guys who make complete rods, cylinders, welding ends on, seals, and whatever is necessary for the farmers, ranchers, and heavy equipment. They don't advertise, there is no dedicated office or desk or staff..... and their prices are more reasonable.
They would have no problem making a new rod.
