But isn't the 7040 a significiently lighter tractor (and I'm going to assume that some of that extra weight equals strength) and also the 7040 has quite a bit less lift capacity on the 3 point hitch.

Aftermarket weight does not equate to adding strength to the basic frame.

Also heavier frames don't necessarily mean stronger.

Both are good tractors.

I am wondering if it's just the frame that is lighter or if the front and rear end might not be as stout? This is just a question to the dealers that are on the board and not a dig toward Kubota. It would concern me if I were in the market for one though. I also agree that strength isn't determined by weight due to possibly using a different type of steel, or a different triangulation of the frame, but if you are using the same alloy steel and the same basic manufactureing process, than it would mean that heavier would be stronger.

I recently priced both the tn75 and m7040 cab models. I had prices equally equipped with a 7k price difference from two nh dealers on the tn75. The M7040 is the same as the lower of the nh prices at 36,500 with loader and cab. I drove the tn75 at the higher priced dealer prior to the quote (43K)and it seemed like a very nice tractor. There are no new M series cab tractors around here for me to test but the dealer is supposed to have one 9/1/06. I also did not know the m series was lighter. I went and looked at a tn60 at the lower priced nh dealer but was not impressed. The tractor would not start and when I went to see what was wrong while they were trying to jump it I heard the mechanic say the head gasket was blown. This is a brand new tractor. It also looked top heavy and was on small tires. If you get the tn I would opt for the largest tires.

I have a used 2003 NH TN70 with AG tires. Nice machine.

I did not mean any disrespect I just was not impressed with that particular tn60. I was very much impressed with the tn75 I drove and have no brand preference. I haven't yet been in a new M series cab tractor as none are available to see locally. I was just relating my experience.

It will be a ligher tractor, even with Cast Disc rims. However its not going to be a huge difference. Its been pretty well established that weight does not equal strength. We don't see more structural failures on Kubota's than we do New Hollands. Obviosuly for dirt work there will be a traction difference. There is no doubt the new M's are really nice tractors, I was out on one yesterday and am continualy impressed by how refined they look and feel. Thats not the say that I would buy one over a TN though, the New Holland is a very proven machine and a stronger preformer in some aspects.

What impressed you about the TN75 that was lacking in the TN60?

The TN 75 had larger tires and a self leveling loader when I drove it. It did not look out of proportion. The TN60 had small tires and with the cab looked to be top heavy. It also would not start so I could not drive it. No loader on the TN60. The interior of the cab was identical. Also there were plastic front fenders on the 60 which looked cheap.
