Was cutting on Sat. and very aware to watch the temp for indications of radiator screen needing cleaning.

Tractor began to bog down in same type of grass that it had been cutting all day. Temp was fine. PTO RPM would drop down to 460 and lower. I'd stop and it would catch back up.

I shut the tractor down and raised the cutter to look under it. Can't be too much that can go wrong, I thought.

First thing I noticed was the entire front screen of the tractor had a thick mat of chaff. I mean like totally clogged. I cleaned it off, raised the hood and shook out the internal screen, which wasn't very clogged.

I looked under the cutter and all appeared normal.

Fired the tractor back up and it cut like normal.

I guess the chaff just choked out the airflow to the engine.

When cutting today, I paid a lot more attention to the front screen. Will do the same when cutting similar grass in the future.
