Looking at getting a M7060 to replace my old L series. What are the pros and cons of the vertical stack style exhaust and the downward bent exhaust. My current tractor has the downward facing one but Im always worried about sparks coming out and all the smoke I end up inhaling while mowing. Any and all thoughts are much appreciated!

I changed my 4410 John Deere to a vertical exhaust because of my front mount snow blower. The fumes would swirl around the front and there was no getting away from them.

Two downsides: You really need to watch while working under low lying branches and the tractor seems to be louder. Other than that I like my vertical exhaust.

I specifically wanted the vertical exhaust when I ordered my 7060 because I have an old International 656 with down exhaust and all that did was blow a crap load of dust all over the dang place when I used my box scraper. That was annoying. Get the vertical exhaust...

I have a M6800 with vertical and yes watch for limbs but the noise is not an issue from the exhaust. Have a B2710 with the down exhaust and think the M6800 is as quite. On my B2710 not impressed the way the exhaust heats the left front tire.

I have a question for all the downward exhausts on tractors, I read about people having to clean out the radiators frequently especially brush hogging and mowing, I have to wonder is the exhaust blowing all the chaff and fines stirring it up were the fan sucks it into the radiator? All I've ever run had vertical exhaust and we don't clean radiators out but weekly or monthly depending on what we have been doing, except for an old Ford which had it run to the rear where it blew right in your face while connecting and unhooking wagons and equipment, I was glad that it was just a loaner we only had for a few weeks lots of years ago.

The downward exhaust on my Kubota L3200 hasn't bothered me. The same can't be said for my Ford 1210. I admit to enjoying a whiff of diesel every now and then, but the Ford really overdid it. When the (horizontal) muffler rusted through I couldn't find a replacement of the same type. I ended up with a welding project that involved a vertical Cherry Bomb, some schedule 40 pipe and a flapper cap. It only stands up about head high to a seated operator so branches aren't an issue. The exhaust is blown up and out of the way and is rarely noticeable.

I ordered the down exhaust on my 5055. it exits staright out from the tractor 10" behind the front tire. it was important to me we have changed the vertical exhaust to horizontal on a JD 750 and a MF1045. i like the increased visibility though it's not much. i like the exhaust down and out of my face (though it appears not everyone has that experience). the biggest thing is cutting under trees and what not not having limbs hit the exhaust.

I have the down exhaust on my M59 only because the vertical isn't offered. It's the first tractor I've ever had with a down exhaust and I can't see any advantage to it. Noisy, smelly, and coats the front of the tractor with exhaust. I'd much rather have vertical. Yes, I work in the trees a lot. It doesn't have to be a tall vertical, it just has to exit upwards.

I saw your thread while searching exhausts. I too am looking at a Kubota M7060HD12. My current 2011 Mahindra 5035 has a side outlet over the front tire with no experienced problems. My two previous tractors had vertical exhausts which caught some limbs once in a while, most of which I would deflect. One time, a limb which was a black locust, caught me off guard and impaled my left forearm with a 3" thorn. It swelled to a knot and hurt for days. Did you purchase the M7060? If so, what type of exhaust did you get?

I have a M6040 with vertical exhaust. I "farm" Ponderosa pine on my 80 acres. Never had a problem with the exhaust and limbs. Noise is certainly no problem either.
