Tractor
kubota m8540hdc12 jd 2305 jd 4005 jd 5055e
just traded in my 06 8540 two wheel drive for this tractor. i really liked my old tractor, but with my loader i think i'll like the hydrolic shuttle better. also the cab and 4wd can't hurt either. wasn't planning on a new tractor, just stopped into the dealer to say hi and he made me a good deal on it. he gave me more for my old tractor than i paid for it new. also got cast disc wheels, one extra svc, and am fm cd radio thrown in. someone will be getting a good tractor when they buy my old one, it only has 185 hrs. on it. anyone else have a M8540HDC12?

In my mind, the 8540 is the ideal tractor and if I'd do it again I'd go w/that model over my 7040 which is an awesome machine but a bit light on it's feet for the FEL work and gen maintenance on my 127 mountain acres. Smart choice on the hyd shuttle...don't know much about the 12 speed but am sure it's a plus over conventional. in my next life I'll be riding w/u.... hats off bb

I see in the Kubota brochure the 7040 3-pt hitch is CAT I/II while the 8540 and 9540 are listed as CAT II. Does this mean you cannot use a CAT I implement on the larger tractors? I know you could use bushings on the pins, but can the arms move in narrow enough for Cat I?

Also, how does the 7040 accomdate both sizes? Does it have different size replaceable ball ends for the lift arms or do you have to use bushings? I assume you can narrow it in to CAT I by adjusting the stabilizers and then back out to CAT II as required.

Mine (7040) had a little pack of bushings with it. I don't know about the 8540 moving in enough for the Cat. I equip. I'd have to check that out before I traded up as most of my junk is Cat. I.

I have used a few cat 1 implements with my old 8540. I had to buy some bushings at tsc. I just took it easy with them. The 8540 is a great haying tractor. I run a nine foot discbine with no trouble at all. Going up a hill with the jd bayler and a full kicker wagon, the rpm's hardley drop. And thatis in twd. They are supposed to pick up my old tractor tomorow, and bring my new one. they had to install the second svc and the cd player first. I can't wait!

Just did the 50 hour service on my M9540, 4wd, shuttle and no cab. I was going to buy a 7040 with cab, but instead gave up the cab for a bigger tractor and more HP. I absolutly love this machine, it is so nice not overworking a machine for a change.
