Maybe 1/2", but I was wrong about the pulley itself moving along the spindle. The movement is from inside the gearbox, the pulley and spindle move together. I have soaked it with PB and will keep fiddling with it.

Then you need to remove that circlip and pull the spindle completely out.

This is ultimately what I did since I was replacing all the bearings and seals anyway. Never did get the pully off but didn't waste any more time trying after I had it all apart. Back together and up and running. Thanks!
