Oil & Fuel Kubota MX5100 Engine Oil

Although many say it is fine it is a grade below the Kubota oil. Rotella is meant for over the road trucks which often are at low engine RPM's not continuous full or near full throttle use. Has a lower TBN number as well as sulfated ash is lower.

Is it okay to run it? As far as I'm concerned after the warrantee is off (so I don't have to worry about warrantee) you could put water in it and every repair shop will love you!

I use the Rotella 10-30 in my MX4700. See the link, Kubota Service Lubricant Maintenance the CJ-4 oil is now the recommended oil for your Interim Tier 4 engine.

I think too many people fret over brand. I am concerned about viscosity and operating ambients. 5w-40, 10w-30, 15w-40, make sure you have the correct viscosity 1st. Then, make sure you are using a HDEO that meets your engine specifications. This will be any API C_ oil on the shelves at your favorite store. Mobil, Valvoline, Shell, Delo, you really cannot go wrong with any of the top brands. Philip.

Does anyone have experience using Rotella T in a Kubota MX5100? The manual seems to say that you shouldn't use it because one of the many Rotella T specs is CJ4. The manual, if I'm understanding it correctly, says that CJ4 oil shouldn't be used because it's intended for DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) engines..

I want to say one of the Kubota models had a mistake in its oil listing in the owner's manual. I am not positive of that.

I'm fairly certain all the MX4700/5100 engines were interim Tier 4. I know mine is. The current CJ-4 recommendation from Kubota (Kubota Service Lubricant Maintenance) differs from what is written in my owner's manual. I thought this information went toward the OP's original question more than an oil brand war.

Kubota brand oil is made by Ashland oil, the makers of Valvoline. I use Valvoline in all my gasoline engines except the ATV. The diesel engines and the ATV have all used Rotella synthetic since the first oil change. I started using Rotella dino oil in 1980 and transitioned to synthetic in the early 2000's and have never had an issue.

You can use Rotella T with the same confidence as you have had with Kubota oil. All oils with that designation would be just fine and you will not damage your engine.
In an earlier post I mentioned T4 engines. I should have said Tier 4.
I have used Rotella t oil for over 20 years in everything from a gas auger engine to a 450+ hp tractor engine and truck engines. No problem. Many fleets use this oil.

I've used the same Rotella 15w-40 for that many years in all our equipment - gas and diesel both. Never had any reason to think it was less than excellent. And we've never had a lube-based failure. However, I've no reason to believe that other oils aren't just as good.

It is obvious that you aren't a fan of Shell products. Rotella T is just as good as any other oil of that class and advising a member that it will cause equipment breakdown it just plain wrong and saying that it is meant for over the road trucks needs some backup statement from Shell to go with your illogical rant. Why didn't you just go ahead and recommend your loved brand while at it.

Gary if you follow oils Rimula from Shell does a far better job of matching the Tractor grade engine oils then Rotella does for TBN as well as sulfated ash both base lines needed for diesel engines that the tractor manufactures have put together for the longevity of their products. I do have oils that I prefer although as I stated I really do like to see what I sell live a long time and you can use what ever you want!
Will the average tractor user here have issues with his 500 hour ten year old tractor probably not! Five thousand hours and it becomes more of a probability. We have seen different oils that have stopped oil consumption or slowed it's use! We have seen different oils that have improved the fuel economy in farm tractors as well as commercial users of small engines.
