My dealer carries the actual, honest to goodness, Kubota brand orange and grey paints that seem to be a very good match, though Ken seems to have had a different experience. The orange may be a hair bright. You can buy by the quart if you have a gun, but you can also buy in cans, albeit at a dear $10 per.

I recently painted a Cub-Scouts rain-gutter sailboat for a friend's boy with Kubota Orange. I will say that it is a VERY HIGH QUALITY paint that is more of a "professional paint in a can" rather than an expensive Krylon. It went on very thick with exceptional coverage, no runs despite a heavy coat, and dried to a VERY high gloss and can be buffed/polished when dry.

For hosing down a bucket or something, the cheaper paints are probably fine. For painting an implement and having it look like a factory job, I'd go with the Kubota paint. The part number from the front of the can for the Orange is 70000-73710 and for the ROPS Grey is 70000-73806.

I have about half of the can of Kubota Orange spraypaint I bought when I bought the tractor. I always buy a little touch up paint when I buy a new car, so I figured it was even more important for a tractor. I've already used it to touch up the arms of my FEL where they have scraped tree limbs and on the side of the MMM when it has scraped retaining wall stones. Like you say, though, that paint is very expensive.

Here's an annoying tidbit I discovered last night at Lowes when looking for stove paint - they sell JD green and yellow - for like $4 a spray can...
Guess that's what happens in Deere country...

Somehow, that doesn't surprise me. Then again, I imagine part of that is due to JD's decision to market its brand, whereas Kubota just sells tractors.

I found that a quart of Allis Chalmers Orange they sell at TSC matches perfectly...for something like $6. You brush it on and it smoothes itself glossy as it dries. Takes a while to dry, though it's very tough when it does. It's what I used to paint my rear blade last weekend and touch up my FEL. Anyone found a matching Kubota Gray yet??? Everything I tried was too light...

Charlie,

That sounds perfect! Cheap, Orange, and tough. Besides, it'll be an unintentional nod to the Allis Chalmers (Agco/Massey) dealer down the road from me.

I got real Kubota orange and gray from the dealer. Ridiculously over priced but as mentioned, it is high quality stuff. I had some welding done to the back of my bucket and this paint covered the weld and matched perfectly. You cannot tell it was re-painted. I would not buy this stuff for a large project, but for touch-ups etc, I guess it was worth it.

I agree that the Kubota paint from the dealer is excellent quality. It's a little more money but the quality is worth it. I've tried paint from TSC - spray cans, quarts and gallons. The quality is just not there. When I put most of the effort into prep work, I'm willing to spend a few more dollars for better paint.
The New Holland paint from the dealer is also excellent quality - but very pricey!

I'd be happy with Rust Oleum enamel but the local stores won't mix colors. They only sell stock colors.

I agree. I baught a used 3pt hitch blower over the summer that was pretty rusted. After wire wheeling it, I brushed on rusty metel primer and then went over it with Allis Charmers color orange. I was happy with the finish for brushing it on. The color may have been a shade off but close enough. The color was not any worse than the different shade that are already on the tractor, (cylinders, fel arms, and rims) all orange from factory, but different shades.

I went to Menard's last night. In the 3 quart cans of "Farm Equipment" paint they had JD green, JD yellow, International Red, Ford/NH Blue, and Canyon Black. I asked the guy if they had anything else. He walked me over to their spray paint. They had four cans of Allis Chalmers orange in addition to the colors mentioned above (and they had "Old Cat Yellow"). I bought all four cans. I hope it will be enough for the bucket. I'd like to do two coats, though, so I doubt it.
