I bought my first tractor in early 2007, and am now looking at possibly trading it (see thread in main buying/pricing forum). While I ultimately bought a Deere in 2007, I extensively shopped Kubota at several dealers, and it was availability more than anything else that resulted in my buying a Deere.
Today I went back to the closest/best one of those Kubota dealers to look at some alternative options, and wound up looking at models almost identical to some I had looked at before (e.g. L4240 today vs. L5030 in 2007, MX5100 HST today vs. MX5100 gear back then, as well as M5040 and L4400). I was almost knocked out of my chair by the prices I was quoted; for the tractor, FEL and filled tires, $28,900 for the MX5100 HST, and $28,800 for the L4240. In comparison, I know that I was quoted around $21,500 for an MX5100 gear back in 2007, same dealer, and also something like $22,500 for the L5030 (admittedly that was a closeout with the 40-series coming, but still a brand new tractor). I realize that HST probably adds $1000-1500 to the MX5100, but not $7400, and the L4240 is a smaller, lower powered tractor than the L5030. And back in 2007 I was quoted just $25,600 for an M5040 with loader, which is clearly a bigger, nicer tractor than anything I looked at today. Has Kubota really increased their prices 27% in just 3 years? Why???
