I Have been following the Posts for the past year and a half. The forum discussions have been extremely helpful in educating myself about the purchase of a tractor. This coming Thursday, I will be making my final choice on whether to purchase a L3430 with BH90 hoe or a L35. I own 15 acres, 3 of which are in finish lawn, 1 in woods and the remainder in pasture. I will be also purchasing the following implements: Landpride Tiller, brush cutter, posthole digger, boxblade and possibly a rear finishing mower. The quandry is first, which tractor....I will be doing a lot of construction ie adding to the barn in addition to land clearing. My other issue is I would like to use the tractor for the large open finish lawn areas but will have difficulty manuevering around trees, shrubs in the landscaped area without destroying the grass. I am thinking about also purchasing a 60" Kubota 24 hp mower also but if I didnt have to it would save me some $$$. Please send your 2 cents worth to me!!! By the way, thanks for welcoming me in this great forum. sp

WELCOME TO THE FORUM; FIRST I WOULD LIKE TO SAY U HAVE PICKED BETWEEN TO TRACTORS that are not much that different. the L35 is more known as a tlb(what they used to dig my water line) i fell in love with it. i think if it was me i would go with the L3430, can't give u a particular reason, just what i think. i think i would have to really examine closely the differences , then drive them both and make my choice. either way u ain't going to be unhappy. this probably ani'nt helping u much, but u asked for our $.02 , so u got mine. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

STPaulsen,

Welcome to TBN. They are both nice units. My personal preference is for a hydro-static drive, whose merits and faults have been debated on this forum quite extensively. If that's important to you, I believe the L3430 will be your tractor. I think the L35 is available with shuttle shift only.

Good Luck,

~Rick

ST: Welcome to TBN, also.

Since it never really dries out in Monroe (I lived in Everett for several years /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif), I think you will find either machine a little large for your finish mowing. Either one would probably do well for your other jobs, but will probably damage your lawn, particularly if you have to make sharp turns around obstacles, such as trees and flower beds. The weight may also be a problem if you are mowing over a septic tank and leach field. You will probably want to get the rear tires loaded with windshield washer fluid or Rim Guard for FEL work, unless you plan to leave the backhoe on all the time. Most of us with those problems have elected to go with a dedicated mower for the lawn -- at least the areas you may be worried about damaging. (my $.02)

Re: Kubota Purchase/L3420 or L35

Thank you for your responses...I really like the Hydro on the 3430 plus the upgrades Kubota did on the new L series. I also like the fact that it is about $3-4K cheaper when you add the BH90 hoe as compared to the L35. The L35 is built like a rock especially for when I venture out into the woods for clearing out the brush etc... I would have to agree that both tractors would be hard on my finish grass and manueverbility would be difficult. I am going to drop the rear finishing mower and purchase the mower to handle the finish lawn. Thanks for reminding me about the septic! On Thursday, after I put in the order, I will finally be able to update my profile. Thanks again.

Re: Kubota Purchase/L3420 or L35

Before adding ballast to the tires, try and see if it works OK without it. My L3830 has no ballast, I live on quite hilly terrain and it has not been an issue yet. Should I need ballast, I will add the water myself. If your septic tank is sound, the small weight of your tractor should never be a problem. The L30's are very fine tractors. Rat...

Re: Kubota Purchase/L3420 or L35

Thanks RaT, I have been following your experiences with the L48 and others for some time. I appreciate the response. Do you prefer the Hydro or the Glide when it comes to transmissions? sp
