I like my 2011's tranny. I spent years on the web lurking before I purchased and read all the stories of the harsh brake effect. I'm no expert on older rtv's but I think some changes have been made to help. My 1100 does have a brake if you let off the go pedal, however i don't find it a problem.

Just throwing something off the wall but do you need all of the 1100? If you don't need all of the goodies and the extra power may consider getting yourself the 900... Just food for though.

Im going to be doing quite a bit of work in the winter so the cab with the heat would be nice

The dynamic braking has been altered on the newest 900 which is actually called the RTV 900XT. The braking was never done using an engine brake but by stopping the flow of oil through the VHT. Kubota reduced the dynamic braking by increasing the volume of oil flowing and different relief valves. This has also changed the hard shifting. For a while they had a knob you pulled to release the pressure to allow it to shift and now it's all done by pushing and holding the brake in. Another benefit of the change is a quicker acceleration. I never got to drag race the 900 versus the 900XT but the seat of the pants test confirmed it to me. Same with the dynamic braking.

Thread is probably all wrapped up now but thought I would throw in my .02... Just got a used 1100 to replace our 900 that have been putting off getting a windshield for so now we dont have to. The RTV's are very relaiable from what I have experienced and seen our 900 has over 1500 hours and still going strong. The only disadvantage to the 1100 that I see over other UTV's is speed, it wont fit in a pickup(practically anyway compared to some small UTV's), it is designed to seat 2 but will seat three just a little cramped and the speed is limited. If you need a very heavy duty UTV that seats 2 with a cab and dont need to go over 25 the 1100 might be what you need. As far as the dynamic braking as some call it all you have to do is adjust the valve a little. Takes 5 minutes saves 100 bucks. Personally I liked the braking as it was from the factory just didnt like it when others were driving. From the work that I had to do on the 1100 due to the old owners mistake of dumping the diff lock on when one wheel was spinning I have seen what is inside of the transmission and its hydro assy. and it is very impressive as I have worked on a number of other hydro transmissions. Its kind of neat that it is hydraulically controlled and variable displacement on the hydro motor to boost its power when under a heavier load. Also the swash plates are replaceable so if something does go wrong everything can be replaced but I dont see much chance for that with the two filter system that they have.

FWIW, I love the automatic braking of the RTV. Yes, some people probably need to learn to feather it a bit when letting off the throttle.

We live in steep hill country and it's nice just easing off the throttle when you want to slow down or stop.

Yes it has a brake peddle but the only time I use that is when I stop to shift on a hill, or if I want to hold it steady while winching a log to me.

Yes, it's not a speed demon, but it goes plenty fast for the ground we have here. Rarely do I ever try to get it up to top speed. It's plenty fast as far as I'm concerned.

Our is almost 4 years old and we have 488 hours on it. It gets used almost daily.
