I live in a small country setting w/8 full time residents mostly senior citizens who depend on each other for various things. I want to do the snow plowing for the people who live here and have a toy for use around the house for small yard jobs. From the responses I've been getting from the members on this great site, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that the 500 is the machine for the job. What snow plow and tires would recommend since you are a fellow Keystonian?

I had ATV tires on mine....I bought the Kubota OEM plow with electric lift actuator--made by Curtis I believe. I'm sure there are aftermarket versions available.

I do exactly what you're planning on doing...We have 4 families on the right-of-way and 7 on the hard road which are all elderly..My neighbor and I plow all of those driveways each winter..More fun than work.

I now have an RTV1100 but I miss my RTV500 sometimes (except in sub-zero wind chills anyway)

I bought a Camoflage RTV1140 a couple of years ago and my neighbor bought a Orange RTV900. He has a small yard and a BX2350 FEL so he really doesn't use it. It has 50 hours, he just had Barlows service it, has glass windshield and a top. It looks new and still under warranty. He keeps it in his garage and has decided to offer it for sale for $9500. He said new ones like it are $14000. If anyones interested let me know and I'll give you his name and address. Barlows delivers all over and would probably deliver it with one of their tractors for a small fee.

If you're open to suggestions from everyone on tires I'd go with the worksite tires and add diamond ice chains if needed.....the worksite tires are better for chains because they won't fall between blocks.....the worksite tires are flat and with a studded ice chain your RTV 500 will go anywhere even after the ground gets a bit of an ice coating.....I had both tires and the worksites worked a lot better for plowing in my case because chains were needed after the first several storms to navigate the ice without sliding around.

You'll only need rear chains, there's not really enough clearance for the fronts on the 500.

Wow, that sounds like a really good deal. Too bad busypenguin is so far away from you, I'd sure encourage him to take a look at that...

Barlows go to or thru Pa often making deliveries and sure they would deliver Rons RTV900 for reasonable delivery fee.

John, wish I had the green, I'd pay you a visit...

You don't have to have green to visit me. Bring brother and come on.:D Ron is the one that owned the boxblade I traded you. I still have the single bottom plow and have decided when I find someone that would rather have it than $300 I'm probably going to let it go. Ron likes guns, boats and fishing stuff and may trade stuff.

Hi, After reading your blog. my first impression is that the 500 would be the way to go, unless you love the diesel powerplant.
Go by your gut feeling and forget about prices for now. Close your eyes and focus on the questions: Do l need to purchase the 500 gas RTV?, & then say to yourself: Do l need to purchase the diesel RTV? and sense how you feel, initial reaction. A nice feeling is a yes and a sick feeling is a no. Try it, you might surprise yourself!
PS- I just bought a 2014 RTVx900 diesel, but l love diesels and in the big picture it was worth spending the extra monies. Both the 500 gas and the 900 diesel are exceptional machines and resale has always been high. Good hunting Busypenguin.
