I think the hydraulic saws would work well out of man lifts. I have wanted to get a 50'-60' 4wd manlift for a while but that is on the list of things we want for the construction side of things. It would be useful around the farm trimming trees and such but it will be a little longer till we get one. So if you do get that saw please post a review.

Your like me. However, I do currently have a 1997 40' genie manlift that I bought on a sale for 10K. It went cheap because it would only move one direction. It otherwise worked perfectly and had 1500 hours on diesel motor. All it required was a 2 minute adjustment on a screw that controls direction and speed on the hydraulics. The manlift requires 2 operators to trim trees efficiently. One to run the position the machine and the other to use a chainsaw. It is a pain to do it by yourself with lots of trimming because of poor reach of chain saw and constantly moving the genie for next limb. I am interested in a toolcat and my dealer wants my genie to use as a rental unit. (He knows it is worth more than 10K) I maybe able to make a good deal on the toolcat. He has sissor lifts buy not an extendable lift. With a flow diverter/regulator, I could run the hydraulic pole saw off the toolcat. Put guy in small manlift (which I already have) with hydraulic saw. Once positioned, he could reach a lot of limbs from one postion and I could get out and trim on the ground what I could reach. A skid steer won't let me get in and out safely if someone is on the man lift in the air. I hadn't considered a conventional gas powered pole chainsaw. (Didn't know one was made.) It maybe a cheaper but noiser option.

The gas powered units might be noiser (I have never heard a hydaulic unit run but wouldn't the unit powering the hydraulics make noise still). For my use it was nice to not be tied to a hose. I can walk around trees and trim away, I can also trim limbs from porch roofs and man lifts. My saw is a Husqvarna and cost over $500 but I don't remember how much exactly. Plust the motor helps balance the saw so you don't have all the weight on the end of the pole. I guess it all depends on what you have and what your plan to use it for. I walk thru my orchard topping the overgrown limbs with the pole saw and can walk along my field edges trimming limbs 18' high comfortably as the saw is a 13' saw. My only limitation is when I run out of fuel I have to go back to the truck or tractor to get fuel. Trimming trees is one of the reasons I want a UTV so I can have all my saws, snips, loppers, oil and fuel and anything else I can think of (first aid kit:rolleyes: ) plus it will be much easier for me to get into a UTV then a truck or tractor now and I can have a helper with me.

I find a lot of man lifts in the 40' and under range which is too small for our use. On small house it is easier to use our ladders and aluminum planks. Our use will be limited but we run into jobs where we need something much taller then our 40' ladders. Even a 60' lift wouldn't do all of our jobs but it will do a lot of our tall jobs and won't weigh as much as an 80' or 100' lift. Right now we have to side and finsih soffits on the back of my own house that is beyond our 40' ladders reach and there is a cooler behind the house we have to work around. I started watch Ebay for lifts to get an idea what prices they are going for. So hopefully I can find one in my area for a good price and go from there.

The hydraulic stuff is alot more powerful than a gas powered pruner. If I remeber its equilivant to about 5Hp, the biggest gas models are not even 2.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Kubota RTV900 worksite and turf utility now standard with Hydraulic Power tool System

how about running a hydraulic motor that will turn a generator head thats about 2500/3500 watts maybe more i know it can be done if you just adjust the flow rate to the right pressure and flow then you can spin the generator fast enough to work . you could probably turn an even bigger generator if needed just put one of them high idol things on the pedal or how ever it will hookup to the accelerator. but i seen them they hold the rpm at a certain rpm instaed of keeping your foot on the pedal.just like on the generators on the boats offshore and on tugs.
