This post is "For the discussion of all the things you do with your tractor SHIPPING CRATE!"

When I bot my B7610, I noticed it was sitting in a pretty heavy duty metal shipping crate. I figured I could make something out of the crate, so I asked the salesman if I could have it. Not a problem he said, take a few. So I did!

Here's a pic of the crate with the tractor in it...

Used a cut-off wheel in a hand grinder to chop them up and a scotch wheel in a drill to clean them up for primer. Bolted a couple of sections together to fit into the new workshop I'm building...

Put a shelf under and used 3/4" Particle Board for the top and ends, pretty smooth and durable when polyurathaned. Might glue a laminate surface on later. Overall dimensions: big bench = 91"w x 36"d, wing = 80"w x 28"d. Both are 35"h, same as my movable 3' x 3-1/2' center island bench.

I extended a portion of the bench under a window so I didn't always have to look at a wall when working. Had to decide whether to hold the benchtop height below window sill height for asthetics, or higher for comfortable working height. The latter won out. All-in-all, heavy, sturdy and easily disassembled for relocation if desired!

Nice idea!!!

I've got a pile of those crates out back. I was thinking of making a light duty lawn trailer.

I have made a lot of things with those crates. The dealer usually gives them to me just to get rid of the.

My dealer just sells them for scrap pick up, but I knew I could put a couple to good use. Something about that warm fuzzy feeling you get out of recycling something old into a new use for free. Well almost free in this case, I put $7 into the project on account I had to buy the primer. Wood, hardware and the poly were all leftovers. I still have enough steel to make a 3' x 8' hanging wood rack and another to store a convertible hardtop up and out of the way, plus a welding cart.

Oh man... Well, in that case, I guess I can't build a workbench. Way out of my price. Just kidding. Nice setup. I've bookmarked the link and hope you don't mind if I steal your setup.

Go for it! I needed something quick and was limited by lack of welder, so plenty of room for improvement. I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with. I will be mounting quad receptacle boxes in the furthest left and right corner bracing triangles.

I need to buy some of that shelving material. Mine seem to have some sort of magnetic pull on all sorts of junk. I can clean it and a couple days later it's all back... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
