Kubota Tractor and Brush hog

Hi everybody, I am a rookie at this tractor and implement thing. I have a Kubota tractor with a bush hog. I was curious if it is normal for the bush hog to keep rotating for a period of time after the clutch has been pushed in. It seems to keep rotating for about 30 seconds. I just wondered if this will hurt the gearbox on the tractor? Thank you

Mine rotates much longer than 30 seconds. There is a lot of mass in the blades and it takes a while for them to stop turning. If you want them to stop faster, you can lower the cutter into the grass after you press the clutch or disengage the PTO.

Yep, it's normal. I always moved the throttle to idle first to let the engine slow the blades a bit before disengaging the PTO, but they'd still be spinning for awhile.

If your mower doesn't continue to spin after shutting down the PTO, you'd better be checking to see what's wrong. A good balanced shaft, blades and gearbox will allow the blades to continue turning for quite a while. Another good reason for keeping anyone away from the tractor until you're sure they've stopped. My brother got whacked on his steel toed boot because he got too close before the blades stopped turning! John
