Computers... They can post it in hundreds of cities with a key stroke... even if it works less than 0.01% of the time... they make a killing since it cost them nothing...

Personally, Craig's list should be able to check for multiple listings automatically and delete ALL post that has the same title.

Here is an opposite scenario for you. We posted a 59 Willys wagon for sale in Oregon and got a spam email from Atlanta. The guy claims we stole his pictures and his post, used as our own. He then threatened to email Craigslist and tell them. Don't people have anything BETTER to do?????

I am trying to sell a piano. I have had Spammers make all kinds of odd offers, shipping ect.

Last January, I was in the market for a tractor. I had sold my smaller Kubota, and wanted to move to the 35-40hp range. There were soooooo many scams out there.

The ones that got me though, were about the GI about to ship out to combat, needing to sell thier tractor for $2500, even though the one in the picture should sell for #12-15k.

About two months ago I put an ad on CL and the next day I received a reply stating that my CL account had been temporarily suspended. It included a link that was titled http://craigslit-org.110mb.com/.... followed by a bunch of other jibberish. Craigslist was in fact spelled wrong. Anyways, the link takes you to what looks like the real CL userid/password page and asks you to enter your id/pw in order to "reconfirm" your account. Probably just a kid practicing his web programming skills but who knows.

The other well known scam occurs if you're trying to sell a vehicle.
They'll make an offer to send you a money order or cashier's check and then arrange to ship the vehicle to them after payment arrives. Only trouble is, once you cash the fake check or MO, it's on you to make it right once it's discovered. And you don't have to worry about shipping a vehicle to anyone because the fake "buyer" is long gone.

Actually, they do automatically delete multiple listings that are identical. If you look closely (or LooK, l00k, etc) they make subtle changes to each copy of the listing.

Another scammer favorite is to put popular search terms in a listing that is totally not related. Often, this text is at the bottom of the listing and is made to look invisible by using white for the text color.

If you search for Kubota on CL, and get a listing that doesn't appear to have the word Kubota in it, just use your browsers in-page search (control-F on windows or Linux, command-F on Mac) and you'll find it. You can read the "invisible" text by highlighting (select) the whole page.

LOL.

"GI about to ship out to combat, needing to sell thier tractor"

Having been in the military for 22 years, I can tell you that I've never heard of a GI in deployment status who could afford a CUT or above, or had a place to store one, much less actually had one. Lawn tractors, sure; but only if they were married, and the spouse could handle those transactions.

By the time a GI has a need for a tractor, they already have the family resources to manage their equipment if they rotate across the pond.

And the Soldiers and Sailors Act means that all legal action, including repossessions, get put on hold until after the member returns from deployment.

The one I have been getting lately is "Create a paypal account and then send me your email address. We will then pay you through paypal and I will have an agent come pick up your item"

Both times I got this there was no questions about the item I was selling and they included words on how safe paypal was. Truly paypal is safe but I marked these emails as spam.
