Not an oil engineer but- One difference is the anti wear chemistry- Super UDT was using zinc dialkyl dithiosphosphate and Super UDT II uses alkyl borate chemistries. They are full compatible with each other.
I guess you can't get veneral disease from it or at least I hope not.....
My take on lubricants is simply this. So long as the lubricant you choose meets the manufacturers guidelines for lubrication quality and viscosity, they are all good. I use Chevron Synthetic because I like the orange color and it works just fine.
Under the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act of 1975, no manufacturer of any motorized vehicle (tractors included) can deny any warranty claim due to lubrication failure, period. You can use anything you like so long as it meets Kubota's specifications for the above. That's not limited to lubricants either, that's anything, oil filters, air filters, fuel filters, tires, accessories...anything perishable.
If it wasn't for the Act and it's mitigation of manufacturers liability, there would be no K&N Filters (by the way I have them in my Kubota's), noaftermarket anything, no auto parts stores like Pep Boys or O'Riely's because you'd have to buy only manufacturer certified parts, oils or whatever at their prices. The Act brings about fair trade and competition and that's good.
They want you to use their branded stuff because, guess what....they make money on it. However, you aren't legally bound to.
It's FoMoCo and Mopar and Good Wrench but Kubotaland....
Besides....
I figure my gearbox/driveline oil in both my tractors gets dilluted with who knows what anyway. Everytime I hook to a fertilizer Cart at the co-op and hook up the hydraulics, whatever was in the tractor before I got it (cart) left their fluid in the lines and now I have theirs, or if I borrow say a stubble beater from the operator down the road who has JD equipment, I get Hy-Trans, or maybe Traveller from TSC or maybe motor oil, it's a crapshoot.
It's all good, I never get worried about it.
