Why NOT get the best possible product to put in there? It *does* get very cold even in Virigina from time to time, and I gather that Super UDT is superior in other ways to regular UDT than just cold weather performance.
Messick's on-line prices are $25.75 for 2.5 gallons of regular UDT and $36.47 for 2.5 of Super UDT. Considering the relative infrequency of having to change the hydraulic fluid (at 50 hours and 300 hours on my B3030 I think), and the occasional "topping off" I might have to do in between, I'll probably average *maybe* 5 gallons a year. OMG, that's a whole extra $21.44 a year. BIG FAT DEAL! it's a totally miniscule price to pay to optimally take care of something i have over $20k invested in, and if I ever re-sell, I can add "Kubota Super UDT hydro fluid since new" to the description.
I run Mobil 1 and top-tier rated gasolines in my vehicles for exactly the same reasons. My car has a hi-revving DOHC V6 that I flog mercilessly and with 90k miles on it, it runs better than new. I believe the Mobil 1 and the gas has at least something to do with that. It really is a small price to pay.
