Mowing Kubota ZD21 won't start

It has 1000 hours and a fairly new battery. It doesn't crank at all, just a click when I turn the key to start. Prior to replacing the battery recently it wouldn't always start when hot. Now it won't start when cold. Cold is relative, since the temp is in the 90's. Ideas?

If this machine uses a Denso style starter like many Aisian motors, it may have worn starter solenoid contacts. There are two copper contacts under a triangular cover on the starter held on with three screws. If your starter looks like this, you are in luck, starter contacts are really cheap and easy to intall. To diagnose worn contacts, keep trying to get it to crank. When you keep trying it over and over again rapidly, the contact will probably hit just right and the starter will work. If this is the case, pull the starter and get some contacts.

Mine is doing the same thing. Where can contacts be found?

I did a quick search and found this site with a good explanation and photos of the starter contacts. Take a look and see if this is what your starter looks like. This site also sell the contacts that you will need to repair your starter.

Repair your Denso Starter and SAVE MONEY!!!

If the starter solenoid is'nt the problem, I'd move on to checking the safety switches.

I read the post below and decided to get the JD part number AM107421. I installed it and it now starts the first time, every time. I have to run it a week or so and see how it goes.
