How come KUBOTA Canadian dealers sell there genuine spare parts between 87 to 92% higher price ticket than USA Kubota dealers? Does the all the parts come from Japan and does Canadian $ is about even parity with US $?

Is there a KUBOTA a Canadian dealer (no custom fees) that sell KUBOTA's genuine parts at a fair price on INTERNET?

I may step into it when I say this, so please take this in a good spirit...

My brother and wife (a physician) just moved to the Castlegar area from the states. They've been up there a couple years, actually. They notice the large difference in pricing on almost everything. They travel down here to make almost all their big purchases...cars, chainsaw, Christmas presents, etc. It's legal to do that...they pay your GST and all that upon return and still come out better.

The dollars are about equal again as of today. But prices are higher north of the line. I'm thinking it may have something to do with free enterprise. The US is more fully capitalist; a free-market system. Canada appears to be on a more "socialist" track (easy, there...just my opinion) which, in fact, makes things cost more. You do not have the same downward pressure on prices as in a more free-market system. (Although, our prices are going up, too!)

I could go on and on, but I'm not an economist so it would probably tend towards uninformed opinion. But I think this is part of what you're seeing. Frankly, it's been like this for years and years.

Well put, Neil.

WILBRODE, maybe Messicks will send you the parts, even if they are only
Americans. :) Your C$ should go further than the US$ right now.

For my Kubota parts, I would like to support my local dealers and I have in
the past, but they are now marking up the Kubota list prices by 10-20%!
Welcome to the left coast, I guess.

That said, I have been ordering from Messicks, and even with shipping
3000 mi, they are better. AND they provide a web link to the Kubota
list prices. Kudos to Messicks....they earned the biz.

The answer is never simple and has next to nothing to do with the cost of doing business.

Kubota dealers and Canadian consumers are not paying income taxes or payroll taxes that are much higher than say in CA or MA. Substantial price differences exist before sales taxes.

Per capita we pay less for health care than most industrialised economies despite having full coverage.

In 2004, per-capita spending for health care in the U.S. was more than double that in Canada: in the U.S., it totaled US$6,096; in Canada, US$3,038.

Ours is a far from perfect system and there are many things I'd like to see changed. For friends and relatives I have in the USA who have great insurance I find that the quality of the health care in the USA is better than it is here. I'm not making any comment at all on which system is better, just pointing out that the differences in our tax rates do not justify the differences in prices of goods.

Case in point - it wasn't many years ago that every thing was a LOT cheaper here in Canada than the USA. The exchange rate was 60 some cents on the US dollar then. Folks from the states came up here to shop. The cost of doing business was not any different then it is now. We still had the same health care.

The answer is that retail prices are set to what the market will bear. There are lots of things that cost more in the USA and Canada than in other countries... and vice versa.

If Canadian consumers start buying goods (cars, tractors, electronics) in large enough numbers from the USA, then the local prices will adjust.

It is just business as usual - you sell things for the price that a buyer will pay - no more, no less.

I do vote for doing business with Messicks. I've bought things like workshop and parts manuals from them and will be ordering some other stuff for FAR less than it will cost me at a local dealer.

I hate not supporting a local dealer but hey, if I can save 40-50%.... it's just business.

idaguide.

All modern industrailzed societies are socialist - including the USA and Canada and Western Europe. We all have some sort of social safety net. Yes the degree of socialism is different.

However, between the USA and Canada we have a free trade agreement on the vast majority of goods. So both countries are just as capitalist.

Where our greater socialism shows is in markets like cell phone services, satellite tv etc... few things that have archaic regulations. On goods (tractors and so on), this is not the case.

The sizes of our markets is quite different. There is no question about this and this does affect the level of competition and thus the reason for the lesser downward pressure on prices here. It has nothing to do with us being more socialist than you (which we no doubt are!) but on the size of our market being so much smaller.

Can someone place here (as .jpg scanned image) the part list of the TL720 front loader and of the BT900 backhoe. I just got the exploded parts diagrams of each, but I do not have the reference from the drawing number to the mfg. part number.

Thank's to Inspector507 for tips.

Here are the links:

I asked one dealer why the the price of parts were so high compared to the USA and he said farm equipment dealers were required to purchase from Canadian distributors and were not able to purchase goods for resale from USA based distributors or direct from USA manufacturers if the manufacturer had a Canadian distributor. A case in point. Last spring I needed a pair of springs for my post driver. I called several local dealers and they all quoted me a price of $140 per spring ($280 for the pair). I purchased them in the USA for $23.50 each for a total including deliver for around $60.

The parts list would be a much larger jpg file than could be posted here. Try going here and you can get the loader parts list with part numbers and pictures.
