Does anyone have experience with Kuhn tillers? I'm looking at a 50" Kuhn and 50" Bush Hog and trying to decide which will work best for me. The price is the same for both. I'll be working a sandy loam/glacial till soil with a fair number of rocks. The tiller will be used mainly for the preparation of vegetable beds.

I am not sure if this will be of help , but I own a Kuhn model 42-190
It is 72" and run it off a JD 990 40 hp / 35 hp PTO .... In low gear (a-1) this will make my New England heavy clay and rocks in some places just like coffee grounds . It works in a-2 and a-3 but is coarser till, I am very happy with my Kuhn .Three local farms here also uses Kuhn tillers and they really put them to use that was good enough for me ..

I have just ordered a 58" Kuhn tiller. My research concluded that the Kuhn tillers very good, however, I am sure that Bush Hog tillers are also good.

In the final analysis, I did choose Kuhn because the price was cheaper than Landpride, Bush Hog, and the color matched with Kubota.

I paid $1695 for a Kuhn model # EL32/150 tiller. Good luck with your purchase.

AndyF:

I have been using a BuhHog RTS74 tiller on my NH TC45D for last year and a half. Works through light loam and heavier clay (takes a couple of passes on clay) with no problem. Have had only had one incident at 19.3 hours on the unit....collar bearing at chain burnt up. Dealer said it was first time he had ever seen one fail without several hundred hours on the bearing. (he had it back in operation in less than 24 hours.). Other than that, no complaints.

I have an L3010 and wonder what model you have? Reason is I would like to know how large a tiller willl work? 58" or 48" with offset capability would be nice.
I have sandy loam composition so the soil is pretty tame.

I am currently pulling a King Kutter II 60" tiller with a NH TC29, similar in size to the L3010. And I have no trouble with it in hvy clay soil.

I bought the Kuhn model EL32/150 which is 58" wide. Your 3010 would not have any problems. Just make sure the tiller is wide enough for the width of the wheels. You maybe able to go bigger with a 3010 a machine !!

I'd go for the Kuhn. Except for the smallest model, all Kuhn tillers are gear drive units. You can also buy interchangeable blades for different situations. The toughest are forged points. Larger Kuhn tillers can be optioned with shiftable gear boxes to vary the speed.

If you ever get a chance to look at a complete listing of all the models, you'll see tillers that can be hung on the back of 200+ hp tractors. The expertise that builds those extends to the smaller models. They're the Mack truck of tillers.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. It seems like everyone who has used the Kuhn is happy with its performance.
