L-185

Wading through my first visit to this (hopefully) helpful site, I've noticed no one with a Kubota from the era in which we purchased ours. Is there anyone out there who still operaties and nurses an L-185 from the early '80s? We're nearing 850 hours, and we want to stay on top of what a unit of that age may need.

I just picked up a L185DT. 320 hours. It seems to be a nice little rugged machine. I don't know to much about Kubota tractors yet, most of my experience is with 50's vintage John Deeres.

I have an L1500 which is the same as an L185 in Australia. What country is yours in.

Just bought it but seems fine.
Any special maintenance tips etc. you can offer ?

We bought our L185 from a northern Virginia dealer in 1984, and have used it ever since on our small farm in Maryland. Over the years it has proven pretty-much maintenance-free, with most of the problems arising from the attachments we've used on the tractor (belly mower, 4' Bush Hog, etc.). The only trouble I can recall has been with the underbelly chains for the mower, but these are most likely due to operator error. We had a small accident with the unit that resulted in a mangled cowling and cracked radiator in 1997, and I've been trying to find out where I can get a used/replacement hood for awhile now. Purely cosmetic.

It's a truly great machine, but we may be out-growing it as we expand our vineyard in the coming years.

I have a B6100DT that my Father-in-law bought new in 1978. It has 823 hours on the meter, which my FIL says "quit working a while ago" so I'm guessing it has around 1,000 hours.

He is a fanatic about doing prescribed periodic maintenance. But other than that, he kept it stored outside in Southern California weather so the tires are dry rotted and I had to put some new hydraulic hoses and a new seat on it but all else seems to be just fine.
