L 4350 hydraulic shuttle

The "Ever Clutch" on the L4350 is the same as on the L4850 and L5450. It's a wet type clutch - a stack of disks running in oil. When you either move the shuttle lever or step on the clutch pedal, hydraulic pressure to the clutch stack is regulated to give the desired result.

These tractors also have a dry-type clutch disk - but it is for the pto only.

If you can tell me a little more about the question, I'll look it up in my manuals. Do you have a clutch that is acting up?

If your interest is just preventive maintenance I don't think there is anything to do except normal changing of the tractor's hydraulic oil.

The clutch is run by lever mounted on left side of steering column.

It has three positions, up forward. Center, neutral. And dowm reverse.

It froze up and I took it the left floorboard off to access the linkage, finding the freeze up was between a ball bearing and the three depressions, representing forward, neutral and reverse on the box which the ball bearing drops into.

This was cruded up with dirt, gravel etc.

Cleaned up and WD 40'd and got this lower linkage freed up and it rotates fine now.

Problem is instead of rotating through the about 30 degrees to go from forward through neutral to reverse and vice versa that used to be required I now have to go through about 240 degrees, and of course there is not that much movement in the linkage.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dave - is there any chance that the valve down on the control unit got turned 180 degrees from its original position? This selector valve has ports at 90 degrees inside it - 45 degrees in either direction from "neutral". If it got turned around it would take 135 degrees either way to get the ports lined up. (might also function backward - ??)

Mark - on the 4350, standard equipment was dry clutch and mechanical shuttle but the "Ever Clutch" was an option - so Dave's mention of "EC" is the tip off that his clutch is the wet type. Dick B

"Brain tumor???"

First, it's wet, at least if you remove the cover it's full of transmission/hydraulic fluid and looks like if left open it would drain upper 1/3 of transmission.

The valve, I assume is in part the stem that comes up out of the control unit to which the linkage connects?

If correct the valve will rotate 360 degrees and in trying to get it to work we have turned it all the way around. I cannot find a position where there is the 30-45 degrees between forward and reverse.

Is it possibe the valve needs to be pulled out of the unit turned and put back in?

I have a great dealership here, the service department dispenses lots of free information rather than collecting bucks for actually performing the work. I have to go to town today and will stop by and ask them what's up.

I'll keep you informed if I learn anything. Any help you can forward is sure appreciated. I have fourteen tons of hay in 8 X 3 X 4 bales I need to unload and stack in the barn.

How come equipment always goes down during haying and runs perfectly the other 9 months of the year?

Thanks for your interest and information. I love my Kubotas, in spite of all of the flack I take from my red neck neighbors for not using "Big Green" and buying American.

When the valve is in the right position, the total motion from forward to reverse is 90 degrees. So when it is in neutral its in the middle, and it goes 45 degree one way for forward, or goes 45 degress the other way for reverse.

If the valve is the wrong position, it has to turn around further to line up the oil passages and work.

I have not had one of these apart. did you take the lever off the end of the valve? Are there flats on the vave shaft? If so will the lever go on either way? That's what I was wondering about.

If the lever will go back on either way, take it off, turn the valve 1/2 turn, and put the lever back on - ??

Sorry if I'm missing the point here, but when you said it works but has to go too far, the valve being rotated out of position is all I could think of.

I would not think the valve has to come out (or should).

Another possibility would be if the lever is pointing the wrong way? The hole for the operating rod goes inboard toward the tractor, right?
