Kubota L-48 TBL
Hello everyone, can anyone tell me if a service manual for an L-48 would
include information about the FEL , or is that a separate manual ?
The self level valve needs some minor tweaking and it looks
mighty complex !
Also would a parts manual be a helpful investment ?
Thanks for any information.

Digger, check the thread on "L48 or L4610" in the buying/pricing Kubota section, we've been talking about this very thing with the Eaton self level valve, let us know where the self-leveling feature is in need of adjustment as it does not apear to be uniform. Mine is weak on the bucket dump only. (I can't get the front lip or cutting edge of the bucket to lift the tractor up) It seems to bypass the pressure at to low of a pressure, other then that its very powerful and actually, the self leveling works very well, Rat...

Rat, my loader works the same as yours , not much power on
the dump side of the bucket curl , I think I can live with that.
What I don't like is with the bucket on the ground and level ,
put a mark on your level rod , then raise the bucket up about
8' and set it back down , my bucket isn't level anymore. The mark on the level rod didn't return the same. I think that the variable ajustable orfice needs fine tuned so you can raise and lower the hoist and still end up with the bucket in level position.

Digger, I have yet to use a self level setup that brings it back exactly, but its close. It may depend on oil temp, bucket load etc. I don't have a situation where return to same bucket position is necessary as I get the feel for the bucket postion automatically with use. I removed my level rod the first day. I can see where for a lot of folks, having the bucket return to the exact angle configuration could be useful, particularly when using the front cutting edge. Read the piece by John in the earlier mentioned column in L48 or L4610 at end of page 3, Rat...

Rat , I have operated frontend loaders for a lot of years, most being Cat and i agree that you get a feel for for level from sight. I guess all the loaders I've run had automatic kickouts for level , when not broken ! As far as self level all brands I've run have a bellcrank setup and It does not change unless you move the bucket lever . I like to grade with a full bucket and don't dump it until entire area is finished. I like to know exactily were the bucket is when I set down and go go go.
I loaded coal for years out of the pit , the first couple feet when you set the bucket were most important be be exactly level or you could end up with more bottom than coal. Digger

Digger, that is a great way to grade when you use the front bucket. I too leave it filled to grade. Its amazing what the extra weight does to enhance the tractors grading abilites. I thought I was one of the few who when grading with the front bucket filled it up. I keep it filled when ripping with the box scraper as well, Rat...
