Hi all,
My bullet proof has 1950 hours on it, had A/C problems at 1600 hrs and thats all besides PM stuff. Wanting to keep trade in value up, I was wondering about trading up. Or do I keep her, it has been a very good tractor since new.

I have run L5740s at work, really like them but they have a very uncomfertable seat, foam is harder than my tractor.

I hate to go look at JD since I have 4 of them in the past ( too much shop time)

What to do??? Your thoughts please...

I have a L5030 HSTC and while I like a new tractor as much as the next guy, bought a new M8540 a couple of months ago, I just can't think of anything a L5740 will do that I can't do with the L5030. Now I haven't driven a L5740, so maybe I am missing something.

I can pretty much bet that I will own a L5240 or L5740 someday, but I just can't see getting rid of a perfectly good tractor to get one. I tend to pretty much keep a machine as long as it is dependable.

There are some aspects of the L5740 that I do prefer over the L5030 and that is the location of the air vents and evaporator resulting in more head room.

Now if I didn't own a L5030, I would buy a L5740 in a heartbeat.

Of course I reserve the right to change my mind at anytime without so much as a moments notice.

You have a top-of-the-line, late model tractor with under 2,000 hours of use. With good maintenance, it will probably run reliably for way longer than that. A new one will basically do the same things your current model does, with a few more bells and whistles, and a less comfortable seat.

You might come up with a financial model that supports trading up based on depreciation, but it mainly sounds like you're getting the "urge to splurge" on something new and looking for a reason to proceed. If you've got the liquidity and want to do it, go for it, dude! You have our permission, as long as you send pictures of the new one.

All kidding aside, this is a "want" vs. "need" decision. Only you can decide if it's the right thing for you to do. Most folks would be happy to own that L5030.

Thanks all, I do need the splitter tranny the 40 series has for what I do.

Just curious how that Woods BH has worked out on a cab tractor. I figured changing seats every time you need to reposition the tractor would be pretty inconvenient. Or do you have a helper who drives while you dig? However, I see there is enough demand for backhoes on cab tractors that Kubota done a re-design so the factory BH can fit the new L40 cab models. Something to consider when you go shopping. BTW, it looks like you are racking up a fair number of hours on your equipment... way more than I do.

Bh works great. Changing seats can be a pain but some times I do use helper or set tractor in nuetrel with bucket 4" off the ground and lower stabilizers down that will stick the bucket on the ground, then I can use the hoe to push or pull and steer tractor.
I have the farm cleasned up so I am not useing the BH much any more.

Thought I would trade the hoe in since it would lower my trade difference for some thing I hardly use any more.

My luck if I wait another 1000 hours I will not be able to afford a new tractor, they are getting higher than they use to be.

TripleR and Grandad4,

Thanks for the input from both of you. My 5030HSTC has half of the OP's and I have been trying hard to rationalize the 5740 (...the turbo will give me more power at 4,000 feet, etc). The "top-of-the-line, late model tractor..." was a bitter pill for my tractor lust, and just the right medicine.

Now if they made a turbo'ed 8540HSTC, Katy bar the door. Kubota knows their market better than I do and there is obviously insufficient demand for an HST of that size, but boy would I love it.

Make no mistake, I would love a new L5740 HSTC, I just can't justify it for my needs (wants, yeah, not needs:laughing:).

I sure hear you on the M8540 HSTC. I really like our M8540 Hydraulic Shuttle Shift; can't say enough good about it, but throw in an HST option and it would be perfect.

We all have to face those impulses to one degree or the other. Why just the other day I was telling myself how neat a new truck would be...

I almost sold my 5030HSTC a while ago when I got my big Massey but it works great. I've got 1200 hours or so on it. All the trade in values I was offered on it were ridiculously low, the hit would pay for another 20 years maintenance. That loss just to have one thats a little more shiny?
