So I was playing around the other day with the L5740 and I removed the tail light lens to see about maybe making some brake lights come on. To my surprise, the tail light already had a dual element 1157 bulb in it. So I looked under the dash where the brake pedals are and noticed a plug not hooked to anything. Which leads to my question. Is there a micro switch that plugs in and mounts around the brake pedals to activate brake lights??? My dealer isn't so helpful. They are just as stumped as me. I'm going to try and find continuity from the plug to the tail lights to test my theory. I like to just jump the plug to see, cuz there is 12v on one side, but my cautious side says not yet. :confused3:

If you are worried about blowing a fuse, jump it with a 1k 1/2 watt resistor, and measure to see if voltage arrives back at the lamp.. the resistor would limit any current if there is a short beyond the connector, and if no short or load elsewhere then the full 12 volts will appear downstream. Savvy? Or just ohm the load side to ground first, if it is an open circuit , then jump with wire. Fear not the electron, just understand what you are doing and proceed.

Doesn't everyone have a box full of 1/2 watt resistor?

Well since about age 12 I have had a junkbox full of scrap electronics parts, and I just assume everyone has one, don't they?:) But a couple of 1K's at radio shack is probably what $1.29 or something if you had to actually buy them.

Yeah don't have any resistors, but I do have fuses. I'm not worried about blowing a fuse. Just didn't want to short a circuit that may not be fused. I can jump the circuit with a 1A fuse too. I was more curious if any other L owners have brake lights? The dealer thought they all did, but obviously not. We checked several other L's on his lot and none of them worked.

Here is where the plug is located on the fire wall in front of the brake pedals

This is the plug end. 1 ground, 1 12v, the other 2 wires have 5v

Tail lights. Rt bulb is turn signal. (Single filament) Lft bulb is the tail light (dual filament)

I've tried continuity between all circuits to the rear. Very high resistance. Nothing conclusive. :confused2: :confused3: :anyone:

That is the break light switch... couldn't guess why they have it unplugged?

There is also a Park brake switch... it only lights the dash light, and is activated by the brake lock lever.

You can test an unknown circuit using a light bulb... if it lights to full brightness, you have hooked it to a short (or very low resistance) if you get a dim glow, it is into a high resistance... If it is on a light circuit, it and all the lamps on that circuit will be on at Less than full brightness... This is the same as the resistor in series test mentioned by k0ua, but you will likely have a light bulb.

Yep there is a plug there for the brake lights. Not sure which one but your tractor is HST so why would you need to have brake lights? By the time you took your foot off the HST pedal you'd be stopped before you got a chance to push the brake
I'm thinking Kubota didnt add the switch due to the HST tranny

Kubota may put it there for other countries or for states that require the tractor have brake lights for road use.

I believe the European models have brake lights.

My Kioti has brake lights, as 4shorts pointed out you just dont step on the brakes that much.. maybe for "roading" the tractor. But even then you usually just let up on the pedal and the thing stops.

Not sure why you really want or need brake lights on a tractor in the US. I dont think motorist would recognize them. You are doing all of 16mph, have flashing lights, a triangle, and running lights. Philip.

That's exactly what I thought about the tranny. But still curiosity is killing me.

K. Never mind. Thanks guys.

Our L3830 has lights like that, but the outboard bulbs have a yellow cover over them and are used for turn signals.

oh man I know what you mean. I toyed with doing the brake light thingy but figured I'd never use it so ruled it out. I wonder if it would be used if a GST tranny was on the machine  I bet now that you brought it up someone will hook a switch to it anyway :D
