According to the owners, parts and service manuals for my L2900 (32hp engine /25hp pto) it is considered a compact.

Yup, I think the "L" series is still considered a compact although some of them are getting pretty big. If you want a true utility tractor you have to move up to the "M" series.

L series tractors are considered full size not compact. I own the L-2800. I do not think Kubota made an M series when I bought mine.

Been a few years since I bought my L4200. At the time and probably now, the L series had two sizes of frames. The smaller units were considered small frame (compact?),tractors. Somewhere around mid 30 HP they were large frame, (full sized?), tractors. My L4200 is the same size as several standard utility tractors I own. Compare the physical size of different L tractors and the difference in size should be easily apparent. Any good dealer should be able to explain this and tell you where the cut off in frame size is.

It's more complicated than that because over the years all Kubota L and M models have gotten gradually smaller and less heavy per horsepower. For instance, a 1986 L4150 or 1995 L5450 are both more rugged and weigh more than a 2000 M5700 or even a new M6040.

There have been many models and frame sizes. Also Kubota's earliest model numbers represented gross hp, then switched to pto hp, finally to net hp. Even this list Kubota Products doesn't really show relative size and weight - but it's a start.

Our L3830 is plenty big enough for me, but when I look at an Ag tractor, I can see that ours is a compact.

Just ordered an L3940GST and it is essentially the same size as my 35 HP 1972 MF 135 considered to be one of the most popular and enduring utility tractors.

Long time reader and I cannot help but notice you like the L4150. I just bought a L4150DT with 1600 hours on it with BF900 Loader. Solid tractor and after changing all fluids and filters runs even better. But... when changing right front hub oil, my (lower) drain plug, as opposed to fill plug, was ate up by something in front hub. I could see many metal shavings in the oil and also see the hub houseing was also "knawed" at by most likely the lower gear (which runs the larger planetary gear). Have you ever heard of this? I can find nothing about this problem. I think it's been caught in time before any additional and expensive damage. I am assuming something is either warn out of the vertical drive shaft nut us loose allowing the gear to hit the interior. I will soon see as I have a complete manual and will take apart soon. Also, I have a brake which is slightly hanging up, any thoughts on this as opposed to pulling it completely apart? Thanks Much

Looking in the manual for the L3750 Kubota claims about 45 Hp for the engine (5cylinder diesel) and 36 Hp PTO. It really didn't mention what size it was. Scales in at 3860 lbs.
