Tractor Sizing L-series what size

Nawww,

Gordon would have bought a new tractor anyway. I haven't seen anything that John Deere or NH has that has made me even think twice about buying another tractor. The only one you really need to watch is JimBinMI. He is just dying to get an L Series Kubota, so you will talk to him.

I've been talking to him all along. I just haven't been saying what he wanted to hear! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Its funny but when my tractor was at the shop getting fixed they had it parked next to a new one and I was really amazed at how much the paint had dulled over the years. Guess I should have waxed it more than once in ten years!!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

No message on my machine when I got in tonight so I guess the dealer is still crunching the numbers. But I thought the same thing about the first dent, better someone else did it than me.

As far as replacing the tractor--I had planned at doing it at the end of this year (for taxes). No sense in me giving all to uncle sam. When leak happened that really steamed me and then to top things off I get it back and not only does the tach cable go but the oil pressure sending unit starts leaking as well. I can't afford alot of down time with my tractor. I can only do so much on the 8n compared to my Kubota. Now since I've fixed those two items it's run like a champ, and probley will for awhile she just had to show her butt alittle if you know what I mean.

This board has been a great help in many areas for me. The simple things alone that I've learned here and will continue to learn here are great, let alone the complex ones. If I had never been on this board I still would be going through the same process of buying a tractor and it would be a Kubota with out a doubt. Mine has been taxi tested tough and came back for more. At times when I read the posts I do feel that maybe I abuse my tractor alittle compared to other owners, but I bought it to work not to look pretty.

Gordon - Don't kick yourself too hard for not waxing it. I suspect your old Kubota is Kubota Orange and the new one is Kubota Orange II. The new orange is considerably brighter than the old version.

Ok now I have another question about the L series. Here it is which rops should I go with the folding or standard? Doesn't the standard sit up a few inches higher than the folding? Does it make a difference?

Gordon,

You know more about working in wooded areas than I ever will so I wonder why a metal canopy would not be your first choice? The L35's and B21's have a four point ROPS with canopy that sure makes me feel better as I work in the trees on our mountain. Aren't falling limbs a big worry with what you do?

The top issue is a big one with me I've decided not to go with a cab on this tractor and build my own. Guess I should have worded my question alittle better. The rops height is my concern so far I've found out there are three and maybe even four different rops alone. Each with different heights to consider.
Until I build the top I still need to be safe in the event of a rollover. The height will dictate how the top is built and if there will be enough room for a dash cluster over my head. A radio and cell phone are necessary for me.
The four point rops is a great setup with the metal top how thick is the roof any ideas?

Gordon,

I can't tell you how thick the top metal is off hand. It is mounted on a square tube frame with a couple extra cross members. Seems pretty heavy. The top is mounted with bolts through rubber washers. I think Bird has mentioned that his canopy is made out of diamond plate. If you are building your own, that would seem to be a good choice.

Nope, MarkV, my canopy is smooth steel painted to match the tractor, although I was given the choice of that or unpainted diamond plate aluminum at the same price.
