That would def. be a cheaper, easier, and much more effective solution. IMO. Good idea!

I know this is a old post but thanks. My solenoid would not click, even when I ran a hot wire to it. Took the carb off (not fun) and if you drop the plastic clips for the linkage you get to take all the shrouds off the muffler as well to find it. Anyway, took the bowl off and the solenoid was all gummed up, carburetor cleaner cleaned it right up. I covered the solenoid needle and exercised the solenoid with jumper wires and that got more crud to break loose and float out of the seat.
