The hydraulics quit working on my FEL and 3pt lift. They just barely try and move when you work the levers. I cleaned the hydraulic intake filter, removed the pump and it looks fine looking into the port holes. I removed an FEL hose and it squirts oil when I move the control. I removed the pressure relief valve and it looks OK. Fluid level is correct via level check plug. Seems to be pumping fluid, but doesn't develop pressure. Could I have blown out something in the 3pt lift hydraulics inside the case under the seat? It doesn't make any abnormal noises. Any other ideas?
Thanks.

By chance does your L245DT have a direction control that might got turn or loosen...if there any foam showing, water you may have to change the hyd fuild plus the filter.

danmower,

Did you remove and clean the filter on the left side at the bottom of transmission case? This is about 6-8" long and you need to have a cork handy otherwise you loose all the fluid.

Doesn't yours have a separate front pump for the FEL? I had a L185DT with 1200 FEL and 600 BH with a separate pump running from the front of the engine.

After this I would suspect a bad relief valve popping off too soon or maybe a loader relief valve also - I don't know if there are two valves.

The 3PTH is not likely to be the problem from my experience as I had a similar problem that it would not lift, so took the top off the case to find everything in order - it only takes about an hour - just keep things clean. What I found was a clogged inlet filter after this mucking around..

I dont have the shop manuals anymore so can't be of more help.

Carl

I don't know anything about a direction control. No foam or water present in tranny oil.

Danmower, just looking into the pump ports will not tell you enough about the pump. You really need to dissasemble it and look at the aluminum case where the gears ride. If you see a ridge where aluminum has eroded away you can verify that the pump is bad. The gears generally always look good, the problem is once the case wears around the gears the fluid will not continue to flow when put to work and just churn around itself. If it turns out the pump is bad, check to make sure after replacement that when the 3pt lever is all the way in the raise position that the feedback linkage returns the 3pt valve back to neutral to prevent the tractor hyd's from constantly running on relief. This is what usually wipes out hyd pumps. Of course check your filter and strainer screen as well as the fluid condition.

You have to do what Carl_NH posted. Clean the filter in the case body. Also, check the vent under the seat. Bees like to fill those with mud. Last thing to check would be the pump, because you have to break it down. As mentioned by another poster, do you have two seperate pumps? One for the loader, one for the tractor?

I'm the original poster. Thanks for all the responses. Most suggested cleaning the filter, which is a great suggestion, but you will note in my original post I said I had already done that. I ended up going to a nearby dealer and talked with a sharp mechanic who explained the system in about 3 minutes, which allowed me to diagnose and fix my problem.
Since the explanation is a little long, and others might find it useful, I will make a separate post titled "L245DT hydraulics theory". Thanks again for all the help.
