What resolution should I post/scan the pictures at for a "normal" size?

I usually only save as "jpg" not gif...

Around 400 x 600 pixels usually makes a pretty full screen.

My browser, Netscape, doesn't like spaces or percent signs /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif so I couldn't read that picture.
