John, the 5000 series tractors sure are nice. Especially those large front wheels. What type of trans does it have?

John Deere's trade name is called "SyncReverser", basically an 8/4 Synchronized Shuttle Shift. Very nice for loader or rear blade work.

The front tires are 9.5 X 24, and I also have a little compact Satoh 25 HP... my fronts are almost as large as those "rears".

They look "odd" next to one another...

Geez, Guys!!!

I step away from TBN for a few hours and this thread takes off like a weed! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Thanks for the pictures, John. Your manual clears it up better than Windex. I'm feeling a little short-changed in the manual department, Bird. Are yours as superficial as mine?

As for posting pictures, we had a discussion about this recently. Muhammad has suggested a maximum width of 720 pixels and the file size is constrained to 200K. Many digital cameras have a 640 x 480 mode, which is a dandy size for posting on the internet. If you want to be "polite" to those who may have slower modems and/or computers, I would recommend keeping the file size below 100K, if possible (that's merely Harv's humble opinion).

In general, photographic images, such as taken with a digital camera are best saved in jpg format, using whatever compression is appropriate for best size and detail. Line drawings and/or text usually do better in gif format. As Muhammad cleverly demonstrated, if you reduce the color depth to 3 or 4 pixels (which you would only want to do on a line drawing or text), a gif file will turn out to be a fraction of the size of a jpg.

The conundrum is that if you can't or don't know how to reduce the color depth, it's a toss-up as to which format will do better on line drawings. So I suppose if you're not sure what to do, use jpg. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

And John, I was going to congratulate you for coming in off the porch and registering as an official TBN member, but now you seem a little uncertain as to whether to log in or not. Why don't you come on in and set a spell? Kick off your shoes and make yourself comfy. That way we can send you sarcastic private messages in addition to public ones like this. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

The last time I heard that [about 22 years agon}...I did... and I married her... I got in enough trouble...

Say Harv, come on... huh? what do you say you start this thread up in <font color=blue>blue</font color=blue> now... Huh? Will ya? Huh? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

<font color=blue>I'm trying to imagine this board if you, your computer, your digital camera and your tractor were all in the same place with a rural ISDN line </font color=blue>

Watch it, Rob! You're giving me ideas. Gimme a laptop with a wireless network connection and I could broadcast "live" from the seat of my 'Bota! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Yea, sort of a goodwill gesture. I've heard it said things are "dead" over there. Makes ya think of the old Maytag repairman commercials. It can give em somethin' to do. Maybe go open their hoods./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

"<font color=blue>...Around 400 x 600 ...</font color=blue>". (this from my earlier post)

Sheese, what a dummy. I was going nuts trying to remember 640x480, Harv, then I go write 400x600. Oh well, guess that's one of the reasons I have to have all my referance books on the shelf in easy reach /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

John, glad the other guys answered while I was gone today, 'cause they know a lot more about it than I do. I put a big one or two on there before I started reducing everything to 640x480 or smaller.

Bird:

I was impressed with the sharpness of the pictures you posted in one of the other threads which is one of the things that spurred me to grab the Olympus D460 when I saw it on sale.

Do you take your pictures in the 640X480 mode on your D460 or do you take them at the higher resolution and reduce them in your computer?

Bill, just don't forget that I'm a rookie at using a digital camera, so I haven't necessarily found the best way yet, but I've just been leaving the camera set on "HQ" which is 1280x460, then when I load the pictures onto my hard drive, I use the Camedia software that came with the camera to downsize to 640x480 or smaller. Sometimes I "crop" a part of the picture first to get rid of any unwanted surrounding picture before downsizing.
