Jeff,

Not sure I am following you? The RCR 2660 is about 8 yr.s old and I have owned it for 7. It maybe has 20 hrs. on it total, but yes sharpening the blades would be a good idea. I bought it used from a guy in Iowa who had a hobby farm with a JD and a ton of implements. He cut his stuff down, then kept it cut with his finish mower. The unit looked in new shape (blades and underneath) when I bought it. I used it once and it has sat in a covered shed.

I wanted to update everyone. I ran the Landpride RCR 2660 with the L2501 and it ran awesome. Had to go a little slower in extremely tall fescue, but any 8-10 ft. tall briar patch that I backed into it just kept on mowing like it was no problem. I took apart the 4 plate slip clutch before I used it and removed any minor rust. I varied the speed on the tractor between 1800 and 2300 rpm since it is new and everyone says to vary the speed for the first 50 hrs.

Thank for responding to the thread.

Good to hear. I have a 72" Howes cutter and my L2501 turns it fine however at slower speeds than my L3400 did. Since I recently retired, I no longer have the need for speed. :)

Thanks for posting about your experience with the 5' rotary cutter. I have an old 4' cutter that I used with my old 8N for many years. Now that I have the new L2501, I'm thinking about upgrading to a 5'. You have convinced me...lol  I do have a 5' bush hog brand finishing mower and it runs that very well. ;)

Sharpen your cutter blades.

would 2nd this. sometimes overlooked in talking HP & performance. easier on equip & improves quality of cut..... just be safe putting edge on blades, would recommend blocking up cutter & using impact wrench to remove. i'm not keen on sharpening w/blades attached, imho best regards

Dull blades shatter woody plants & small trees. Sharp blades cut them, often leaving sharp punji sticks to impale feet & tires.

good point, something to keep in mind for utility mowing...the OP mentioned that his use was open land meadow, so sharp blades would be appropriate in this case where pto hp is in question best regards
