Meant "other than a HST", sorry.
I've driven Kubota GST & high end big JD PowerShift & PowerQuad shuttles. They as are nice in the field & more efficient, but have more operator overhead. I'd consider a shuttle for some use cases, but not really a gear machine unless I had no other option.
I hear interesting things about the new CVTs, but they aren't an option on machines in my class or with a dealer here in CO (No New Holland here for some reason). They might compete well with HST, duno.
On the economy Kubota's & JDs it's gear or HST. I know they don't offer GST or PowerShift & don't think there is a lesser shuttle option either. Could be wrong, but you need to jump up to the premium machines for the nice GST/PowerShift ones at least.
For my uses I'll take a HST over a shuttle 90% of the time, even with the 15% HP tax. Cost on the 2 trannies is usually the same.
