L2550 broken wire on air intake sensor?

Can anyone tell me what the blue-capped device attached to the air intake does. As you can see in the second photo the cap is off and the wire inside has broken. Will it hurt anything to run it the tractor this way or should I fix it ASAP? Looks like a tricky soldering job.

I believe it is a air cleaner sensor.

On mine it is a vacuum gauge that when the air cleaner is clogged it causes the light on the gauge cluster to come on. Mine has not been functional for a LONG time. Since I regularly service my air cleaner I don't worry about it. If it is an open air leak then it would be an issue due to dirty air.
