I went to Byrd Tractor in Manassas and McMichaels in Warrenton.
The salesman from Byrd stopped by today and said he would give me $7700 for my B2100 which is $200 more than he previously offered.
I am thinking about the L3400 more but then I would like to get the 7' mower!!!???? UGH!

Sure is fun spending your money!

I went through the same mind bending and ended up trying to get the most hp for the $ and spending anything left in my budget on implements (must have 'em).

Ended up with L3400DT (gears) with loader and R4s, 72' mower with 7 ga. deck, and 5' JD rotary mower ("bush hog").

I have been delighted with the toughness of this machine. Having spent many years on various 30-50 hp tractors (generally older ones), I can't believe what a pleasure it is to work with the L3400. Sure, HST would be about 1.5 seconds faster backing away from a pile with the loader, but I find shifting to be second nature and rather fun with such a tight, positive transmission. I also like the fact that I have the rpm much lower than one would with an HST for 90% of the tractor's operating time (1200-1500 rpm vs 2400 or so for the HST). Higher rpm winds up the hour meter faster, too (not a clock as you know).

Like many guys, more hp the better. I doubt you will regret it!

I am waiting on my L3400 gear with FEL and it is $ 14700. I could have gotten the L2800 with FEL for $ 13500 gear. L3400 hydro with FEL was 15900 and a L2800 hydro was $ 14700. 6 more HP and a better PTO and a 2 stage clutch was definitely worth $ 1200 more to me.

All these prices are with the AG tires but I wouldn't think the R4 tires would add more than a couple hundred as one dealer only quote me $ 100 more for R4 tires on a New Holland I was looking at.

solo169,

You may want to call High View Sales Inc. When I was shopping for my tractor I also visited Byrd in Manassas and the dealer in Warrenton. I got the best deal at High View it is just outside of Winchester about 3 minutes over the WVA line. Ask for Frank the business on an aesthetic basis it is inline with both, for a first class looking dealership check out Winchester Equipment. Frank and his staff are very knowledgable and will be very willing to work with you on price he seemed the most willing to do a deal. Just my 2 cents worth.
Good Luck and keep us updated!!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

In the long run you couldn't go wrong having more HP, The price on the 3400 sure is a lot nicer than the Grand L series....

Theres nothin wrong with the L2800 even in a HST model, I've got 95hrs on mine and it has preformed very adequate for what I've done with it.
The L3400 is great also but like all tractors... you pay for HP.
Buy as much as HP as you can afford.

The L 2800 does not have a live PTO, the L 3400 does. For me, that is something that makes the price difference seem less.

I did. From your link and the Kubota literature:
"L 2800 Gear Drive -- Transmission driven with overrunning clutch
L3400 Gear Drive -- Live-continuous running
For both tractors with HST -- Live-continuous with overrunning clutch"

These are not the same thing. The thread is about the gear tractors. The L 2800 gear PTO loses driving power when you push the clutch in or take the tractor out of gear. The L 3400 gear PTO does not. It can be important when turning around, finishing a row, or shifting gears in heavy mowing conditions.
