I've got a 2007 L2800 that recently wouldn't start. It just clicked so I assumed the battery, but turns out it was the starter....couple of whacks with a hammer and it starts working. So, lately, I've had to carry a hammer with me so I don't get stuck out in the pasture. Is there something inside the starter that can be rebuilt or replaced? Is it rebuild-able or worth rebuilding?

Could it be a sticky bendrix drive? At some point you might need to get either a new one or get it rebuilt.

Thats what it reminded me of...those old Chevy starters which is why I tried the ole hammer trick. I didn't know if these were built the same way.

I would just replace it. Doing a quick Google, they come back with about ~$100.
