I third Teg on that. No way would I have a 2WD tractor when a 4WD option was available. 4WD is worth its weight in gold.

There is a reason that you see very, very few compact tractors with 2wd.

Chuck,

Initially I'm only going to be using a 5ft Cutter with it for mowing 9 acres. After I get the weeds shorter than me :) I'm going to take a box blade and work on some areas that don't drain correctly and have some humps. After all of that is over in done with, in the far far future when I can afford a loader, I might get one to move some dirt around. Given Budget contraints, I'm going to get an L3400 2WD with Front Grill Guard and 4 weights to start with for now. Thoughts?

Budget limitatiions, being in a rush and not doing my homework caused me to loose a considerable amount of money on my first tractor purchas.. Be sure and do your homework and ask alot of questions on here, lots of great folks with a wealth of knowledge.

Do not get stuck making payments on a machine that will not be adaquate for the jobs you need to tackle. IMHO the L2800 in 4WD would be a much better choice then the 3400 2WD version especially if you get a loader. I really do believe you will regret not having the 4wd when doing dirt work.

I would say to drop down to the 2800 and get the 4WD. 4WD we help you more than a few extra hp. The 2800 will mow just fine and 4WD will help a lot with the blade work.
