Pay the extra for 4WD and the Front end loader. Everyone I know who got said Including me said they will never be without it again. Big plus for resale also.

I have a L3400 MFWD w/ FEL i love it. Still wish i had got the next size up though 
we have three horses and handle round bales as well. I have R4 tires but i dont do any finish mowing with it. i do do alot of shredding with it with a 5' KK. I think the 4wd will let you have alighter machine but still give you the pulling power of a heavier 2wd. and it is selectable so you dont always have to be in 4wd. and the loader is removable however i have never had mine off in 1.5 years.
Here is what a L3400 is capable of when talking round bales.
these are some 1000 pound 4x5 coastal handeled no problem
this is a monster 1600 pound 5x6 coastal. this pushed it a bit but it still got the job done.

Thanks for the pics Mahana. That pretty much proves to me that the L3400 should have no problem with handling round bales or any other heavy material I should need to move around.
I'm heading to the dealership tomorrow and check them out again. I really wasn't even considering 4WD, but I may have to reconsider. It seems like almost everyone on this forum has opted for the 4WD instead of the 2WDs.

The single biggest reason I went with the 3130 was the skid steer QA loader. I want to change between a forkset and the bucket. I would have gone with the 3400, but by the time the after market pieces were added to the loader, I could get the 3130 for a few bucks cheaper since they have a larger rebate than the 3400.
I loved the JD790. It is nice and compact, yet I'm 6'2" 220 and I didn't feel cramped in it. The price difference between the L3130 and the JD790 was $1650 (after rebate). I felt that it was worth it.
I'd suggest you buy what feels best. I have a neighbor who gets by just fine with an older 2wd JD850. He added a bush hog loader to it and he was still under 10k. He has been hung up a couple of times, but we are in an area surrounded by swamps. If your main use is going to be maintaining a large yard, and don't expect to be in soft areas, save your money.
One thing I found is you get into the "it's only $1500 more" game. Well, soon enough those $1500 additions jump you into big money.

I really liked the 790, but the low lift capacity just isn't going to work. I have a Kubota L175 now, and it is just a little less lift capacity than the 790.
